Audiology Assistant
Summary
SUMMARY:
The Audiology Assistant performs a variety of routine tasks and duties under the direction and supervision of an audiologist allowing the audiologist to focus on provision of evaluative diagnostic management and treatment services requiring the direct involvement of licensed audiologists. Duties include maintenance inventory and stocking of patient care equipment and the environment of care; hearing aid repair assisting the audiologist in testing record-keeping clerical duties and other administrative support functions.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Communication and interpersonal skills necessary for the tasks assigned.
A basic understanding of the needs of the population being served.
Successful completion of the training requirements and competency-based skills necessary for the performance of specific assigned tasks.
Additional qualifications established by the supervising audiologist to meet the specific needs of the audiology program and the population being served.
Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Associate�s degree preferred.
Preferred Background In Communication Disorders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Fit for duty in accordance with OSHA standards and program specific needs.
Physical ability to lift position and transport patients. Considerable reaching stooping bending crouching and kneeling.
Independent Action
Performs independently within the department�s policies and practices
Refers specific complex problems to assistant clinical manager when clarification of departmental policies and procedures is required

- Maintain audiology testing supplies and patient care equipment including monthly inventory weekly stocking and organization.
- Maintain environment of care including weekly rounding of patient care areas to assess compliance with departmental and organizational standards cleaning patient care supplies following organizational standards for infection control assisting with monthly biological calibration of audiometric equipment.
- Under the supervision of a licensed audiologist - maintain stock of loaner hearing aids assist in minor hearing aid repairs
- provide testing assistance to aid in patient management.
- Support departmental ability to provide patient equipment via assistance with daily packaging and mailing relating to equipment orders logging of outgoing orders receipt and logging of incoming items reconciling outstanding orders and support hearing aid and cochlear implant related data management as assigned.
- Assist in scanning and filing patient documentation to support timely access to records.
- Perform light office duties as requested including scanning photocopying faxing filing chart preparation and the like.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences and needs of patients in appropriate specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
