Objective: The Associate Curator of Education and Outreach works with the Sugden Chief Curator of Education and the Assistant Curator of Education to fulfill the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s (NMWA) mission as an educational resource. The Associate Curator of Education and Outreach is a full-time position in the Museum’s Education Department. This staff member is directly responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and exhibitions for youth and adults that represent audience needs and community values.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and direct learning programs to attract and engage visitors from around the world.
• Responsible for schools’ use of the NMWA and its resources; strengthen relations with area teachers and school administrators (pre-k through 12).
• Manage and implement youth programs, pre-k through 12, which occur both on and offsite (as well as virtually over Zoom) and include community collaborations.
• Develop and manage adult education programs, such as, in-gallery programming, teacher training, films, lectures, performance art, webinars, and art making that enrich exhibit themes.
• Serve as liaison with educational organizations and community groups to build relationships and better serve underrepresented audiences.
• Integrate Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion principles in programs and exhibits.
• Develop and implement collaborative outreach initiatives.
• Key staff contributor for Bisoncast distance learning initiative.
• Collaborate with marketing staff, and design marketing plan for Education Department programs and events.
• Grant writing, implementation, and reporting.
• Development and management of event, grant, and program budgets.
• When appropriate, supervise Education intern (summer).
• Direct informal art making and engagement opportunities for visitors of all ages.
• Create and install community art exhibits, and plan/execute the accompanying community opening events (average of 2 per year).
• Mobile app tour development.
• Children’s Discovery Gallery management.
• Open Studio (art making space for all ages) development and coordination.
• Develop, coordinate, and evaluate education website resources.
• Manage the education department’s scholarship programs.
