Job Description:

Department Summary & Job Purpose

  • 75% Assistant Coach for Rowing
  • 15% Community Rowing Program
  • 5% Teach 2 credits of Physical Education activity courses
  • 5% Other Duties: assist head coach with home basketball game management and lead the annual Canoe Sing during senior week at MHC


Duties And Responsibilities

Assistant Coach Responsibilities include:

  • Support the head coach in developing and implementing strategies to successfully recruit, yield, mentor, and retain a diverse group of academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
  • Assist the head coach in all aspects of running competitive collegiate rowing program.
  • Organize and manage training programs as assigned.
  • Create a team environment which allows all student-athletes to grow and develop as students, as athletes, as leaders, and as individuals.
  • Promote a culture of health, well-being, and safety in all aspects of the intercollegiate rowing program.
  • Assist with planning practice as needed.
  • Assist with on-campus recruiting and walk-on tryouts
  • Shuttle the team from campus to the MHC Boathouse for practices
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach.


Community Rowing Program supervisor:

  • Oversee and administer the community sculling program
  • Provide on-water coaching
  • Collect dues and process membership paperwork
  • Conduct learn-to-row programming
  • Run winter erg class for community members


Game Day Manager Duties

  • Game Day Manager for select home basketball events


Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Participate on Department and College committees as assigned.
  • Liaise with Office of Student Involvement to run Canoe Sing
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree; a valid driver’s license; previous collegiate experience whether it be coaching or competing, excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively carry tasks out to completion; ability to function effectively at a competitive liberal arts NCAA Division III college with highly selective academic standards. This position requires travel for recruiting and working occasional nights and weekends.

Education Experience: A Bachelor’s degree

Contract

This is a one-year, renewable contract. Decision on renewal will be made in collaboration with the Director of Athletics/Chair of Physical Education no later than May 15th each year upon completing a performance evaluation.

License/Certifications

  • CPR/AED certification required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • USRowing Level 1 or 2 or other national rowing governing body coaching certification preferred


Working Conditions

  • This position requires travel to away contests during the season and to high school/club events, and other opportunities to meet with prospective students. Extended weekend and evening hours especially during the competitive season are expected.

  • Able to lift and carry moderate loads (45 pounds), sometimes overhead
