Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life

Purpose of Role

The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life is a full-time (12 month), live-on position with on-call expectations. Responsibilities include supervising Resident Assistant staff, coordinating the programming requirements for Residence Life, coordinating training and professional development for the RA and Graduate Assistant staff, assisting with student outreach and crisis management, serving in the on-call rotation, and assisting in other matters as deemed appropriate by the Director.

About This Opportunity

Joining our Student Affairs team, the Assistant Director for Housing and Residence Life will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve in the on-call rotation, responding to crises, concerns, and incidents.
  • Coordinate the Office wide programmatic initiatives including Fall & Spring Bingo, Resident Assistant Programming, Roommate Mixer, Room Swap Month, Fire & Safety Inspections, end-of-semester banquets.
  • Assist with the facilitation of all major Residence Life processes including but not limited to 2-week RA Training on August 3-day RA training in January, opening and closing of buildings for academic breaks, RA recruitment process, and RA evaluation process.
  • Assist the Graduate Assistant for Housing & Residence Life in developing the 20 Resident Assistants by attending programming efforts, tracking efforts, staff meetings and the like.
  • Serve in the on-call rotation, responding to crises, concerns, and incidents.
  • Provide timely follow-up and response to students who are struggling within the protocol outlined by Student Affairs and Residence Life.
  • Adjudicate level 1 conduct cases including hearing, assigning sanctions and follow-up.
  • Participate and assist in Orientation initiatives.
  • Ensure maintenance issues are filed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the Housing and Residence Life Office
  • Performs other related duties that may be assigned. Please note there are required night and evening hours expected.
  • Adjudicate level 1 conduct cases including hearing, assigning sanctions and follow-up.
  • Participate and assist in Orientation initiatives.
  • Ensure maintenance issues are filed in a timely manner.
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Housing and Residence Life and Residence Life Team.
  • Performs other related duties that may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

The Assistant Director for Housing and Residence Life must have a minimum of an earned Bachelor's Degree as well as a minimum of 1-2 years of post-graduate experience in residence life and housing. Preferred qualifications are 2-4 years post-graduate experience in residence life and housing. This position must have excellent organizational and communication skills to build rapport with the Residence Life staff and residential population. The Assistant Director must have experience developing and accessing programming within a community model for approximately 700 residents. This position must have some student conduct experience and be comfortable working within a prescribed student code of conduct, adjudicating cases, and following-up on all reported infractions. The Assistant Director must have an understanding and appreciation for diversity and examine policies, procedures, and programming through the lens of inclusivity.
