II. Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

III. Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position comprise of teaching undergraduate level courses and laboratories in the Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry Program for nursing majors. As an Adjunct Faculty member, the post holder is expected to perform all duties professionally and ethically, and support the policies and mission of the University.

IV. Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person lectures and teaching labs in surveying organic chemistry and biochemistry for nursing majors and other health professions
  • Prepare course materials, lectures, and lab exercises
  • Provide feedback and assessment of student performance
  • Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of biology and incorporate new knowledge into the curriculum as appropriate
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in faculty development activities as required

VI. Education And Experience

Minimum

Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, with some prior teaching experience. Prior teaching experience.

Preferred

PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, with teaching experience in higher education.

V. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry; experience in teaching chemistry or biochemistry in the health professions desired
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body at all levels of the university
  • Dedication to providing high-quality education to students
  • Familiarity with educational technology and ability to use it to enhance student learning
  • High integrity and ethical standards

VI. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

VII. Other Requirements

  • This is a part-time, temporary position. The successful candidate will be expected to work on-site at our campus during scheduled lab sessions or classes. Occasional work in the evenings or weekends may be expected.
  • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
