Position Overview
The ideal Accounts Payable Accountant candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. This Accounts Payable Accountant role is essential in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of our prep school.
Responsibilities Of The Accounts Payable Accountant
- Invoice Processing: Receive, review, and verify invoices and check requests. Sort, code, and match invoices. Enter and upload invoices into the accounting system. Track expenses and process expense reports
- Payment Processing: Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments. Prepare and perform check runs. Reconcile accounts payable transactions
- Vendor Management: Maintain vendor files and set up new vendors in the accounting system. Communicate with vendors regarding account statuses, discrepancies, and payment inquiries. Manage vendor statements and resolve any issues promptly
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate historical records and document retention. Assist with month-end closing activities, including accruals and reconciliations. Prepare accounts payable reports as required by management
- Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures. Assist with audits by providing supporting documentation and explanations. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Minimum of 3 years of accounts payable experience, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required
