Accounting Manager

Job Description

Metro Detroit Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an experienced Accounting Manager. This is a full-time, in-office position that will be based out of the company’s headquarters in Birmingham, MI.

The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The Accounting Manager will also work in a financial team environment to assist the CFO and Controller in meeting various financial reporting deadlines, prepare reconciliations, as well as supervising accounting personnel as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and/or reviewing appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations.
  • Maintaining the general ledger system statements.
  • Preparing of monthly and annual financial statements and other financial reports as needed.
  • Account reconciliation of the general ledger accounts with the sub-ledgers.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of the Sage Intacct accounting system and reporting, and regularly review reporting to ensure accuracy and integrity of the system.
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget and projections during the year.
  • Prepare bank account reconciliations.
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Work closely with other department leaders to support inquiries, identify gaps and improvements in processes and provide guidance to other departments as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills And Experience

  • Accounting functions such as general ledger accounting, accounts payable, billing and collections, payroll, cash and investment transaction and balance monitoring.
  • Time management/prioritization as it relates to multiple tasks being performed at once.
  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, management and financial policies, and tax regulations.
  • Must possess a detailed understanding of accounting terminology and transactions.
  • Ability to communicate and make recommendations to upper management.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers and management.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA OR MBA preferred.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in a corporate accounting role.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Office and Excel.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct ERP is a plus!
  • Ability to prioritize work to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Provide timely budget and financial reports.
