Role Summary:
This role is responsible for oversight of Pets Best (Pets) Controllership activities. Pets Best, a wholly owned subsidiary of Synchrony Financial, is a top-rated pet insurance agency that offers pet insurance plans for accidents, wellness, and illnesses. Controllership activities includes general accounting activities related to insurance accounting, affiliate transactions, revenue recognition, account reconciliations, and monthly close and financial reporting. This role will require collaboration with Finance process owners (e.g., Tax, Treasury, Cash, General Accounting), account reconciliation reviewers, and Pets Best leadership team.
Essential Responsibilities:
Revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 including calculating and recording contract asset, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable for Pets identified performance obligations.
Oversight of and accounting for affiliate servicing contracts including tax, servicing, and treasury. Is there a contract for treasury?
Oversight of Pets Best account reconciliations including working with Controllership process owners to ensure general ledger accounts are reconciled in accordance with applicable procedures.
Preparation and review of various underwriter deliverables including settling underwriter commissions and monthly underwriter statements
Preparation of annual financial statements including oversight of audit by independent auditors.
Lead integration of Pets financial processes into Synchrony environment, including general ledger, cash receipts, account reconciliations, and reporting processes.
Oversight of monthly close process including preparation and review of manual journal entries.
Process governance including process maps, risk and control assessment documentation related to Pets accounting processes.
Partner with Pets management team to provide relevant information for decision support.
Process improvement and automation of Pets financial processes.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
5+ years Accounting / Finance experience
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Strong project management skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to manage tight deadlines, organize, and prioritize work independently
Superior quantitative and analytical skills
Efficiency, exhibited through strong financial and analytical skills
Demonstrated skills and capabilities in critical thinking, complex problem solving and team leadership
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired Skills & Experience:
Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
Certified public accountant
Experience in financial services and/or insurance industries
Experience in controllership or financial analysis
Oracle GL experience
Demonstrated team player with ability to use personal influence and credibility to achieve results through cross-functional collaboration
Experience working in a fast-paced, changing environment
