The Kansas City Symphony seeks an Accounting Manager to join the Finance team in the management of accounting functions that support symphony operations. As Accounting Manager, you will work closely with all other departments to support the business and strategic objectives at one of Kansas City’s leading cultural institutions and one of America’s major orchestras.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager prepares monthly financial statements, including forecasts and cashflow. This Includes preparation of month-end closing journal entries and distribution of reports to management. Performs monthly reconciliation of investments, other assets, deferred revenue, ticket revenue and contribution revenue. Prepare supporting schedules for the annual budget and coordinate agency-wide collection of budget data . Review of payroll and payroll related tax forms. Play an integral role in audits and tax return preparation. Exercise independent judgment in work with various employee benefits vendors. Identify & resolve problems related to employee insurance claims, enrollment and other matters related to employee benefits. Supervise the Senior Accountant.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
A background in accounting and bookkeeping specifically in AP, AR, payroll, and GL.
Familiarity and experience with automated accounting systems.
Ability to multi-task and learn new technology
Initiative to solve problems on your own
Ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse team members
An understanding of non-profit accounting and performing arts organizations will be of value in this position
Exceptional organizational abilities and acute attention to details and deadlines.
A Bachelors degree in accounting or related field, or the equivalent experience.
Familiarity with Excel and ability to operate a 10-key by touch
