    Object-oriented programming is easily accessible by beginners, since it allows for modeling real-world entities as software objects. Storytelling is a natural way to introduce the basic concepts behind object-oriented programming. To convey object-oriented programming concepts to children, such as object, attribute and etc., we present a new tangible programming tool --TanProStory, for children in 1-3 grades. Children can tell a story by arranging programming blocks to initialize a character and construct a program controlling its action. TanProStory consists of three parts: Programming blocks, Animation Game and Sensor input module. Programming blocks in TanProStory are surface-sensitive, i.e. only the command on the top surface can be detected. We conducted a preliminary user study and analyzed the results, which can guide a better design of TanProStory.

    The Jurassic Park Remote is a collaborative PCOMP Midterm project with Cole Orloff. We built a “Book Remote”. Users can control the movie ”Jurassic Park”(play, pause, fast forward, rewind) by manipulating a physical “Jurassic Park“ book (open the book, close the book, turn the pages).

    Atmospheric Sound Lamp is a physical instrument that combines two sensations - sound and light - to bring an atmospheric experience. It is made of three white paper mache lamps on a rack. When people touch a lamp, it will emit warm light and play cosmic sounds. The volume is determined by the area of the touch, and tune depends on the length of the touch. People could touch two or three lamps, or touch the lamps in different orders to play with the sound and also enjoy the warmth. For adults, these lamps will bring a peaceful meditative warm experience; for kids, they will increase their curiosity on light and sound.
