Everyone keeps wondering why the average CMO tenure keeps getting shorter. I believe, at the heart of it, there's a communication gap. Marketing has become more complex. But a big part of our job is to provide clarity. When marketers start using jargon and acronyms, it can sound to board members and other C-level execs like they are speaking a foreign language. Likewise, marketing leaders often fail to link their work back to core financial metrics, or to go the extra mile to explain clearly how their efforts (and budget) impact revenue. Fortunately, there's a lot we can do to remedy this. Today’s brands, guided by regenerative leadership, are not just reestablishing values but also transforming stakeholders and society and contributing to a healthier planet. The impact of branding, design, and communications today necessitates a regenerative focus. This entails a fundamental reevaluation of core values and a commitment to demonstrating change that transcends business. For instance, Levi’s has been a leader in sustainable fashion for decades. Notice the trademarked label on my new jeans. WATER < LESS™ [read less water] elevates Levi’s standards of ethical customer engagement and demonstrates the circular economy model. The label's subtext includes Care for our planet: Wash Less, Wash Cold, Line Dry, Donate, or Recycle. Although Levi’s Water < Less™ process can reduce up to 96 percent of the water normally used in the denim finishing process, and they've saved more than 3 billion liters and recycled more than 1.5 billion liters of water through the Water<Less™ innovation, the fashion industry is said to use around 93 billion cubic meters of water per year—enough to meet the needs of 5 million people. Worryingly, this amount is expected to double by 2030, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s report, A New Textiles Economy: Redesigning Fashion’s Future. Water is the biggest story on this planet. Water in any industry is at the center of the eco-crisis. Only 0.5 percent of the water on Earth is useable and available freshwater – and climate change is dangerously affecting that supply by exacerbating water scarcity. Water pollution affects two billion people worldwide who don’t have access to safe drinking water today (SDG Report 2022). Brand values for today are formulations for improving sustainability responsibly. Dumping your CMO as a scapegoat for lost sales? Think again. In many cases, they're not responsible. As the shortest tenured executive at most companies, CMOs are an easy target. But cutting them may not be the right answer if other leaders are making all the client-side decisions. Perhaps it's time for more companies to consider a Fractional CMO and reevaluate who really owns sales decisions, sales leadership, and client relationships. Becoming an #influencer has allowed me to openly share my thoughts and experiences with full transparency. Achieving this position on Google search took over five years of consistent LinkedIn posting—nearly every week, often working late into the night to innovate and stand out. For years, "Pending" was the grade on my report card, indicating disinterest in the connections I sought. Today, that term is rare, with most requests accepted within minutes. It's a testament to perseverance and the evolution of my approach. Please understand, this isn't sour grapes; it's simply being transparent. Over the years, I've learned to use the challenges I've faced as motivation to improve, much like making fine wine from grapes saved over time. None of the medical associations or the leaders of these organizations at the time provided the support I needed. Ironically, isn't this why they exist—to lend a helping hand to those supporting the medical industries they reside within? It's a sobering thought, reflecting on the gap between ideal support and reality. Sometimes, it's not the organizations that take you where you need to go; it's the caring individuals with stronger arms of support. If there's any takeaway from my journey, it's the importance of spending time to help a person. Those individual connections can elevate you in ways that organizations often cannot, where people truly notice and appreciate your efforts. I initially wanted to express my gratitude by listing the individuals who have supported me, but the sheer number makes it difficult and risks inadvertently omitting someone among the thousands who have connected or engaged with me. To those dear friends who are nurses—you know who you are—thank you for your unwavering support and friendship. I only ask if you can share this post if you are able, so that it may reach those whom I wanted to thank. Thank you all you #nurses for your support.

So much agree with the Marketing Week summary of the Deloitte research… I would add here another angle based on my experience as the leader & now a CMO at Symfonia . There’s no denying that setting a #marketing #strategy, direction for the team & orchestrating people’s efforts to go in that set direction - is key…. But then it’s indeed about letting leaders on your team lead, experts - be experts, and everyone else fly high… Your job is to motivate, orchestrate & give space to your team creativity & knowledge. Usually, when you give your people freedom to be the best at their job, they fly high… Right?

As many of you know, I love podcasting as part of my job at Real Chemistry. In fact, I've been podcasting since 2006, which is a mighty long time. Strategic business planning tools, like the four Ps of marketing, are sometimes perceived as marketing-centric tools.
