    Children

Mentor/Big Sister in formal program from 1998-2011, when I moved out of the area. As BBBS does not formally include long-distance participation, my "Little" and I have kept it up on our own. Being in Michaela's life as she grows from little girl to young woman has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of my life, and she is certainly now my Little Sister for keeps.

  • Options for including land use in a climate agreement post-2012: improving the Kyoto Protocol approach

    Environmental Science and Policy

Many pathways have been proposed for including land use in a post-2012 climate agreement.
Several involve new accounting structures which are quite different from the rules established in the Marrakech Accords and related decisions. However, a mechanism based largely on the structure agreed for the first commitment period also has its benefits. This

    weaknesses.

  • New Mechanisms Needed to Address Deforestation

    Ecosystem Marketplace

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide requires addressing all sources of emissions. This principle is
incorporated into the mandate of both the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol. While fossil fuel use is the leading
source of global emissions, deforestation is the primary source of emissions for many developing countries,
often dwarfing national emissions from the energy or transportation sectors. Emissions from deforestation

incorporated into the mandate of both the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol. While fossil fuel use is the leading
source of global emissions, deforestation is the primary source of emissions for many developing countries,
often dwarfing national emissions from the energy or transportation sectors. Emissions from deforestation
comprise 20-25% of total anthropogenic emissions. Ignoring this important source only limits the potential for
emissions reduction worldwide, and inhibits the participation of developing countries in the international effort to
avoid dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
