What are the best ways to bounce back after being passed over for a promotion?
Leave. If you've been at a company for 3 years and have not been promoted, just leave. They either don't value you, or there are structural problems that make promotion impossible. This happened to me when I was working at a well known NY Biotech company. I achieved all of my goals for the year, and was presented with a departmental award for my efforts. An hour later I was in my manager's office being told that I was rated Excellent, received the highest merit increase available, but wasn't being promoted. The excuse was that I had a flexible schedule so I could drop my kids off at school. In reality, it was a company problem with the org design and the lack of respect for the HR function. So I left. And my career only got better.
