This is a critical read for anyone following banking. The proposed rules by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on overdraft, late credit card payments and more are so draconian that there will be no choice but to add fees for all consumers to the most basic financial products. Those that will be harmed the most are those who can least afford to pay for basic services. This is a prime example of bad agency leadership single handedly driving policy with dire economic consequences.

I often discuss the Main Street economy and the insights garnered from our interactions with small businesses as useful indicators of our overall economic health. Anecdotally, we've seen continued resilience from small businesses, and it appears the latest NFIB Small Business Optimism Index offers similar findings. Small business confidence increased consistently through the second quarter, with expectations for the economy to improve reaching its three year best in June. Small businesses plan to increase employment levels and capital expenditures – positive signs that while growth expectations on Main Street are slower, we can look forward to stable economic progress.
