Should More Retailers Offer Same-Day Delivery To Remain Relevant? Kohl’s has joined forces with Instacart, bringing same-day delivery to nearly 109 million households across the U.S. From 1,172 Kohl’s stores nationwide, customers can now “enjoy same-day delivery in as fast as an hour,” covering a wide range of products, including accessories, skincare and beauty items, home essentials, and pet supplies. Brett Wickard "For Kohls, this is unlikely to be impactful. For other retailers, though, it depends on their product mix — some consumables and time sensitive goods are big wins for SDD if the retailer has their logistics down and runs off of an efficient unified commerce platform." As others note, it has its place for certain categories, consumer segments, and occasions, but it’s not a factor in most scenarios." Gap shares pop 20% as earnings beat on sales growth at all four brands. Gap beat quarterly estimates on the top and bottom lines, leading the retailer to raise its full-year guidance. Part of the sales pitch for buying legal weed is the promise of consumer safety. California even requires lab testing before a product can be offered for sale. Yet almost two dozen weed products tested for reporters at The Times and Weed Week showed high levels of pesticides, chemicals that even at small doses, over time can cause serious health effects. Most pesticides appeared at low levels where evidence of harm may not be known for years. The worst offenders were popular vape brands. How is that possible? California rarely checks products sold in stores. And even when it does, the state’s cannabis lab can’t screen for pesticides. That leaves public safety in the hands of private labs being paid for by the very companies whose products they test. In #April, supermarket #deli departments saw a 3.5% sales increase to $4.2 billion, driven by a 6% rise in prepared foods, which reached $2.3 billion. This growth contrasts with some other categories impacted by an early Easter. Prepared meats and #soups led to gains within deli-prepared foods, while deli meat sales declined. Produce sales grew by 2.5% to $7.1 billion, with solid performances from berries, avocados, and mandarins. Fresh #meat sales rose 5.9% despite declining processed meats, notably smoked ham. Seafood sales dropped due to deflation and weak demand, while frozen food sales remained flat. Traditional grocery stores lost market share in frozen food sales to mass stores and online channels.
