😇𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭: Yotpo 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐀. 😇 Asaf (our COO) and I just finished an amazing week in LA, meeting some of our top current and future customers and agency partners. I cannot emphasize enough the amount of learning we had and the pages of notes we took on product roadmap, marketing ideas, how to make sure our agency program is the best there is, market understanding, and eventually meeting amazing entrepreneurs in their journey building in eCommerce. We started the week meeting the amazing team from Barefoot Dreams, Inc., who are just launching such an exciting loyalty program (kudos to Kristen and Jamie)! The fabric of their robes is unbelievable; buy it for someone you love. Robbie, you had a huge impact on their ability to launch on time, kudos man. Then we had such an inspiring meeting with Sammy (thank you Sara, the rooftop was amazing as well). I think your insights are going to define a big portion of our email and agency roadmap for the next 12 months. I still cannot believe I was so impressed by someone who named his agency after his cat, I hate cats. 🐈 ❌ Tuesday morning, we met with the one-man show of Saie, John Perasco, one of the most amazing human beings, and we geeked out on the amazing options we are building together when you combine loyalty and subscription solutions on the same data platform. We are going to make a massive impact with this combo, and I'm so excited about it. It made us so happy to hear how he speaks about Anna Lesser—you are having a huge impact. Right after, meeting with Thomas and the rest of the PACSUN team was all about our AI innovation in reviews and how our insights product can level up their merchandising. Then, unfortunately, the LA traffic hit, and we got just on time to meet the amazing Murad UK team. Seeing what Soo, Lisa, and the rest of the team are doing is awesome. Besides being the nicest person I probably met, Soo gave us some great feedback and product ideas we are going to implement. We came out so excited about the future of this partnership. Justin, you should have heard the compliments Soo gave you. Tuesday continued with meeting the lean and mean team of Milani Cosmetics. It's amazing to see how a small team, with the command of Jeremy, can make so much happen in retail, Amazon, and DTC. We are going to bring in an agency to unlock some DTC growth for the 2nd half of the year. Oh, and the dogs were amazing—next time, I am bringing Charlie! 🐶 Diego really looking forward to start workin together.

As an employee, your name gets linked to the company you work for, like I’m Mariam from Backbone, Mariam from ArmenITa, Mariam from Spartech and Mariam from Smartbet. ☺️ You should strive to contribute to the growth of your company, as your success is intertwined with its success. Similarly, your company should support and appreciate your efforts, fostering your personal growth alongside its own. If you feel like you don't fit in with your company it might be time to look for a new workplace where you can truly shine.✨ It's all about working together and lifting each other up.. Think of yourself as the face of the company…🚀 #WorkplaceSuccess #ProfessionalGrowth #CareerDevelopment

Innovation lovers ? Corporate innovation explorers, check this podcast out - Always great doing things with Jeff Amerine, PMP, thanks for hositng me on the Innovation Junkie podcast, some key takeaways from our discussion that I thought would be interesting to share here: 1 - "The innovation curve" - know where you and your organization are on the innvoation curve and learn what's needed for that stage, some organizations are very early in the process and need to work on culture and basic infrasturcure and some are more advanced and need to focus on scale. 2 - "Startup Ready Enterprise" - You don't only need an "enterprise ready startup", you also need a "startup ready enterprise", find out what does your internal process look like and what will be required for people in your org. to be able to take in working with startups. (some of the things will be discovered only once you run a few startups through the process) 3 - "Don't wing it" Establish a structured process and methodology for evaluating, piloting, and implementing startup solutions. This ensures focus, speed, and alignment between the startup and corporate stakeholders. The friction and effort from misalignment and lack of transparency are too expensive for you and your organization, you don't have a lot of time. 4 - "Communicate and then over communicate" Bridge the cultural gap between startups and large enterprises by providing clear guidance and setting expectations early in the engagement process. This helps startups understand the corporate environment, terminology, and decision-making processes and also people on your team to be able to know what's coming up next. 5 - "Less surprises for everyone, more resutls" - Involve key stakeholders like procurement, legal, and security teams from the start to identify and adapt internal processes that may hinder innovation.Their buy-in and flexibility are crucial for successful implementation. 6. "You can do it!, they did it" Instill a belief in the "art of possible" by learning from peers who have successfully implemented corporate innovation programs. This can help overcome internal resistance and skepticism. Thanks Innovation Junkie and Jeff, looking forward to more collaborations between NWA and Tel-Aviv #letsbuildtogether #innovation #partnerships

🤩 Super excited to see Wasteless AI in Gelson's Markets in Los Angeles. Very proud of Oded Omer, Yossi Regev, Ralph de Vries, Tomas Pasqualini and all others that are or were involved in making this happen. 🚀 Few startup teams I know have shown the perseverance shown by the Wasteless AI team. The more rewarding it is to now see the company scale throughout the U.S., at reputable retail clients, working with leading tech partners. 🤖 The product you see is a pivot, away from the fully integrated technology solution Wasteless AI also offers, which requires no manual stickering, but which for certain retailers is just still one step too far. A great reminder to always “create what the market wants”. #wasteless #ai #retail #foodwaste

If you are starting a new company in 2024, stay away from Horizontal SaaS. And I hate to say this, but if your fund is still concentrated in Horizontal SaaS, you are building towards a future that’s long gone. Over the last 3 years, Aleph invested in 17 companies. Only 1 out of 17 was in Horizontal SaaS, and that investment was made 2.5 years ago. Here’s why: Horizontal SaaS was the best-performing business model of the last business cycle. SaaS companies founded between 2009-2022 outperformed every other category, and will continue to grow and compound for years to come. But the golden age of SaaS is behind us. One glance at the Emerging Cloud Index of Nasdaq and Bessemer Venture Partners (below) tells the full story. Every business cycle introduces new and more efficient ways of delivering software. Perpetual licenses gave way to recurring subscriptions. On-prem delivery was replaced with cloud computing. AI is already making an impact. Sooner or later, SaaS will likely seem antiquated. Horizontal SaaS is especially vulnerable, where fierce competition, minimal differentiation and low barriers to entry could easily create a race to the bottom. Unfortunately, most new companies founded in Israel still follow this business model. Most will not survive. It’s time to revisit past assumptions and deviate from the classic recipe.

Over the past week, I launched a documentary-style series of LinkedIn posts titled: "How a Shy Jewish Guy From Brooklyn Mobilized 40,000 Voices to Give Israel a Fair Shake on Social Media." It tracked the explosive birth and swift demise of a groundbreaking AI-powered, pro-Israel app that, remarkably, amassed 40,000 users in just three months—with zero advertising, all thanks to a ragtag team of volunteers. You can dive into the full saga through these links: https://lnkd.in/emxRX28i https://lnkd.in/eEZpgaXc https://lnkd.in/epdkDnxB https://lnkd.in/ebJr4WRn Go ahead, grab a bag of popcorn and some snacks. Our wild story is as fascinating as it is infuriating. Launching ProjectTruthIsrael.com was a grassroots response to a digital dilemma: How do you counteract a flood of anti-Israel narratives that seem to have more lives on social media than a cat meme? And we basically figured out the answer. That is, until an anonymous group of shadowy 'hacktivists' shut us down. So, what's next? Frankly, I'm still determined to help Israel, and our upcoming project—a gamification app designed to use 80,000 data points to combat anti-Israel sentiment on college campuses—has enormous potential. But unless more people step up, this vision is nothing more than a pipe dream. If this resonates with you, jump in and help out. If not, at least I hope you found the story compelling. Does this tale end with "happily ever after"? Hardly. It’s not necessarily tragic, though. Decades from now, when I’m an old man in a nursing home, guzzling prune juice smoothies three times a day, my grandchildren will ask me what I did to help Israel after October 7th. I won’t be mumbling forgetfully; I’ll tell them to read this LinkedIn post. Honestly, I’m proud of what we accomplished in such a short time and hopeful that it can be built upon. As the famous advertising slogan goes, "a diamond lasts forever." If that’s the case, then perhaps our valuable endeavor on behalf of Israel and the Jewish people will leave an everlasting imprint.

BlinqIO, a startup founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Tal Barmeir and Guy Arieli, has raised $5 million in a Seed funding round. The funding was led by Flint Capital and included investments from Inovia Capital Precede Fund I, TAL Ventures, and SeedIL. BlinqIO has developed autonomous human-like virtual testers operated by AI, providing companies with an infinite pool of testers that can be integrated into the development process. This allows companies to allocate higher value work to their human workforce. The platform leverages generative AI and Large Language Models (LLM) to enhance its operations, with the AI test engineer being able to comprehend requirements and autonomously create and maintain test automation code. The funding will enable BlinqIO to establish new offices in the U.S. and expand its workforce. Impact on the generative AI industry: Positive. BlinqIO's platform, which combines generative AI and Large Language Models, offers a solution to remove bottlenecks in test automation and provide developers with instant feedback. This advancement in autonomous software testing can greatly enhance efficiency and productivity in the software development industry. Question for discussion: How do you think the integration of human-like virtual testers into the development process will impact the software development industry? #AItesting #SoftwareDevelopment #Automation

Marketing insights from my weekly shopping at the Tel Aviv Carmel open market. This week: the fancy bakery market fit (Post #3 ) 🚶♀️ If you walk through the alleys of the Tel Aviv Carmel opened market, you will find three/ four open air bakery stores with a huge assortment of cheap breads going from pita breads, to buns, rolls and Ciabatta sold in bulk at discount price of 4 for 3 pieces... Although there are few excellent high quality fish shops, butchers, and cheese shops, there is no one single high-quality bakery…well it is not totally accurate…. 🍞 A few times over the past years, I have seen bakeries opening in the market offering a variety of fancy breads such as brown breads, cereal breads, wholegrain bread, rye bread... After all it made sense to open such a store to attract the "hipster", "Bobo (bourgeois bohemian")" consumers which represent a wealthy segment of the market consumers' population. The idea was to sell sophisticated breads to complete the market fresh products basket. 🛒 But I have also been witnessing the closure of those bakeries one after the other a few months after their openings. Why? 🎯 The targeted population of fancy breads buyers is small compared to the whole market consumers population. This targeted population comes once a week to the market to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and cheese for their family for the entire week. If they buy fresh meat or fish and do not consume it within the day, they can freeze it for the rest of the week. Whereas bread especially sophisticated ones are mostly consumed fresh, two, three times a week. 🥖 Fancy bakeries in the market started to realize that even though they interact very well with their target consumers on Friday, the day before the week-end during which they would buy good breads together with other fresh products, the other week days, those consumers would not just show-up to the market to buy fresh bread. ❌ There was what we call in marketing no product-market fit between the product offering and the target consumers, no match between the product and the demand, between fancy bakeries and the market. Their business model based on offering fresh breads to complete the consumer's fresh products basket was not viable. They could not count on many consumers coming just one day per week to earn their living. That is why they finally all closed. ✔ Product market fit is a basic element of any product launch, it is true for high tech products market fit as well as the opening of a store in an existing commercial environment. Observe, study carefully your market before making a move which somehow makes sense a priori.

Vlad Mkrtumyan, CEO of Logic Inbound, on AI trends and where SEO is headed. “But everybody, no matter what field you're in, right, is going to be looking at AI and what matters the most in SEO is going to be technical SEO. So stuff like, you know, data hierarchy structure of your websites' schema, right? It is the biggest thing. So we're doing a lot of schema consultation right now for AI and I think Google is going to use that data and then that's how they're going to help continuously pre-populate searches, right?”

If you are a Belarusian ⚪🔴⚪ founder, this presentation is for you. In my #BelTech talk I focused on: - how to approach investors if you're a diaspora founder, - how to network with locals, - what to say or not to say in relation to your background (hint: speak the truth), - which language and alphabet you should be using (hint: it's not Russian and it's not Cyrillic). We are at two investments in Belarusian diaspora founders at SMOK Ventures at the moment, but I'm on a constant hunt for more! Watch the talk here: https://lnkd.in/dg-6B-WX (sorry for the cuts, I said some stuff that was not politically correct and could have caused problems for those who traveled from Minsk, so it had to be cut off). cc Andrei Avsievich Helene Malyutina Alexander Nevedovsky Ilia Zelenkin Ilya Lesun Maksim Artiomenko

I'm thrilled and immensely proud to share that Jackpocket is now officially part of the DraftKings Inc. family. The entrepreneurial journey is often seen as glamorous, but in reality, it's a challenging path filled with anxiety and moments of solitude. When I encounter new entrepreneurs confidently presenting their impressive progress, I often take a moment to ask about their mental well-being. This journey isn't for everyone, but the key to navigating it successfully is surrounding yourself with incredible people. Attributes like creativity, persistence, a thirst for knowledge, and a sense of ownership among team members are crucial for success. However, what I've truly learned is that having genuinely good people to work with is the most significant factor. I owe this achievement to our loyal, dedicated, and kindhearted team who overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to make this happen. This also includes our amazing investors, external vendors and ever-supportive board of directors. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to this audacious vision. In building our team, we've always prioritized setting egos aside, recognizing that we're all just individuals navigating the complexities of life. While we spend much of our adult lives immersed in our careers, I can honestly say that I've forged some of the strongest, lifelong friendships through Jackpocket. My high school principal used to say, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life,” a phrase that once seemed corny but now resonates deeply. Over the past months, I've had the pleasure of getting to know the incredible team at DraftKings, and I’ve never been more excited about Jackpocket’s future and the opportunity to join a powerhouse like DraftKings. I've come to truly admire their leader, Jason Robins, and I’m eager to learn from him and his team and embark on this journey together. The joke ends here: I guess it takes 11 years to create an “overnight success.” Here’s to the next decade of innovation, teamwork, and overcoming the unfeasible. "If you want to raise capital, invest in branding." I had the pleasure of attending the Apex Group Ltd Israel Summit, Co-hosted with Brooks-Keret Financial Management, which focused on Israel's Diverse Capital Raising & Private Equity Landscape. The event provided valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in fundraising, including alternative financing methods. A highlight was the insightful lecture by Dr Bhaskar Dasgupta, Chairman of the Board & Non-Executive Director, Apex UAE, Bahrain, Israel & India Boards. 💡His key takeaway? "If you want to raise capital, invest in branding." This resonated with me as a crucial reminder for entrepreneurs seeking funding. #capitalraising #privateequity #Israel #entrepreneurship

So, why did we start 97212 Ventures? Towards the end of 2021, it was clear to me that the market had reached its peak, and that Israeli startups would need to go back to basics… running a capital efficient company with a focus on building a real business which brings value to customers and #investors. In parallel, I strongly believed that a new “product” was needed in the venture market for #Israeli #founders looking to go global. A platform-based fund that teams up with founders and larger VCs and provides strategic value in areas which are meaningful to founders and shareholders alike. We also saw our geographic location in NYC, as strategic, given the incredible growth of the Israeli tech community here. But there's so much more to it... Which is why I’m sharing a Medium post on what led to the formation of our founder-driven fund, our focus, and where we're headed. We're like a startup... learning what works on the go. If you have some ideas or thoughts on what you're looking for from your early-stage investor, please feel free to share. We're all about being your ideal long-term partner. #venturecapital #nyctech #israelinnovation

Ignorant brilliance This is Amir Peretz. He had limited military experience, yet he promoted the revolutionary defense system - Iron Dome - back in 2007. It’s difficult to imagine where the world would be without his ignorance and his long-term vision. When we started AppsFlyer, we lacked experience in the Internet, advertising, and marketing. This lack of expertise led us to invent something that didn't exist before. If you are experienced - it often makes it hard to embrace ignorance, but it is essential for innovation. If you lack knowledge or experience - remember that it is your advantage. In any case, an empty mind is key to innovation.

Features don’t have the same impact – whether in product development or life in general, prioritization is key. 🔑 Improve your products step by step, says Adrian Pica, former VP of Product Management at Bolt making data-backed decisions when it comes to priorities. MVPs help focus on what’s truly important, to be able to later expand and refine on strong fundamentals. If you’re operating under significant time pressure, make sure you: - practice ruthless prioritization - iterate iterate iterate - validate with the users with quick MVPs Can you prioritize (ruthlessly)?

Great Web3 panel at Aleph moderated by Meirav Harel last week (thanks Tomer Diari for initiating). Two takeaways for me - one, shared by Eyal Meron, Co-Founder of SphereX, highlights the risks associated with smart contracts today - that any institutional-grade investor is minded to - which possibly explains the low participation of institutions in using smart contracts. Eyal said, “If you hack your way into a bank and try to monetize it, the bureaucracy will kill you. But if you hack your way into a smart contract, you are one step away from the money, and once you put your hands on it, there is no going back”. This point was supported by Ouriel Ohayon, CEO of Zengo Wallet, with an image that stayed with me: “Smart contracts are like a car, without brakes, doors and seatbelts. You can drive it at the speed you want, but if you crash, you die. There is no buffer.” Ouch. The second takeaway, which all agreed on, was the efficiency that the use of smart contracts offers–the speed of the transaction compared to the alternatives: “When you have an urgent need, crypto is like oxygen in a room with no air. In a few minutes, you can complete a transaction that the banks slow down.” In addition to the important insights about the security aspects of Web3, it was pointed out that Web3 remains a male-dominated environment, and that the development of the network lacks the DNA that comes with diversity. If you know of interesting Web3 companies led by women founders, please tag or share. I’d like to get to know them.
