A lot of work is being done through the open-source community and leading tech providers around AI safety. With regulations coming in, there is optimism for a responsible AI future.

Learn key insights from their data-driven strategy 👇 Gopinath Sundaramurthy, Ph.D is the Co-founder, Partner, and Head of Data Science at Ensemble VC.  He recently shared his perspective on establishing a data-driven strategy.  A few key takeaways: 💬 ON DECISION RATIOS:  “Let’s say a VC talks to 100 companies and ultimately makes one investment. In any other field, that’s not a great ratio. One hundred 30-minute calls mean 50 hours on the phone to make one decision. So we asked: Can we bring that number down? We’re closer to 5-to-1 right now.” 📝 ON LIST SORTING AND SCORING MODELS: “On any given day, an investor only has so much time, so the few companies they’re going to focus on should be the absolute best-fit companies based on our thesis, our ability to connect with the team, and more. So we built a model that outputs rankings much the same way Harmonic’s Relevance Score does.” 🔁 ON SPRINT CYCLES: “Our startup ethos plays out in the way we run the investment team on a sprint cycle. The sprint looks like this: During week one, investors validate all the leads they think are interesting—which company is likely to be raising, when, and why. How many r’s in strawberry? Came across a bunch of AI threads in the past day discussing this topic. The debate varied far and wide from is AI going to replace jobs, using the correct “technical” prompt, comparisons of LLMs to deep technical discussions on how the LLMs actually work. People debating these threads include people from various walks of life, executives, users, engineers and scientists. Many opinions and facts. My fascination about anything technology boils down to two questions. Reliable use cases (“where” and “how” can I really use this) and Risk of failure (“when” will this not work?). These principles apply to any “tool” that our kind (species) has ever come about (invented, discovered etc.) including what we are calling “AI”. The answer to “how” we use anything lies somewhere within what I term the “where-when” spectrum. Coming back to AI, the marker we choose in the “where-when” spectrum decides everything from financial gain (or obliteration), risk management to ethics. This marker is bound to progress with time unless it becomes cost prohibitive. For now, we need safeguards (systemic / manual interventions) to ensure we stay within boundaries that keep the equation positive. The responsibility to ensure AI remains a value added proposition is in each of our hands. Let’s be responsible and put safeguards in place so we are not bitten (and bitten bad)! At Confluent's Kafka Summit in Bangalore, Shaun Clowes, Chief Product Officer, and Jay Kreps, Co-Founder and CEO, discussed Confluent's strategic approach to enhancing enterprise data infrastructure amidst the AI revolution. "Every time you have a new data need, what do you do? You connect the destination point-to-point to all the different sources needed. Over time, your data infrastructure turns into a giant, tangled mess of interconnections," shared Shaun Clowes. “Kafka often serves as the data feed into this area. However, when considering the various tools available, they generally run on not just streams, but largely on extensive tables of data. I like this idea of "technical taste". It gets into where software engineering is as much creative art as it is science. Four great takeaways (IMHO) for software devs in this era in particular: 1. Aspiring engineers should cultivate a sense of curiosity, experiment with different tools and technologies, and embrace a mindset of continuous learning. 2. AI has the potential to streamline processes and enhance productivity for engineers, but it may also lead to disruptions in traditional software development workflows. 3. Developing technical taste and judgment is essential for making informed decisions about which technologies and approaches to pursue. 4. Collaboration and open-mindedness are key to leveraging the full potential of AI and staying ahead of technological advancements. I also really liked these two quotes from Sam Schillace: 1. "The right time to do something is when you have that feeling in the pit of your stomach that's like, 'oh, this is a great idea and it's going to suck to build because nothing's ready yet.'" 2. "Technical taste is like, 'how well have you consolidated that set of experiences and heuristics into judgment that you can apply accurately when you see new things?'" 3. "It may be the case that very small teams can do very large projects, or like we were talking about before, it may be the case we're just going to get really ambitious about what we try to do with the same size of teams, which is kind of where I would put my money."
