Hello, everyone! This semester, I've been learning about Web Server Programming with Spring. I am building a trip planner app using Spring Boot and MongoDB to solidify my learning. 😊 Spring Boot streamlines the development process, allowing me to focus on the core functionalities of the API, while MongoDB's NoSQL flexibility allows me to handle my growing trip data efficiently. I have recently published an article on building an API with Spring Boot and MongoDB. Hey everyone, with interview season around the corner I want to share a project Tarun Thatavarthi, Sonith Sunku, and I worked on this past semester called Chatty! Chatty lets job candidates interactively prep for technical interviews with a conversational AI so they can more easily land roles at the company of their dreams. Users can practice industry-standard problems in an integrated coding environment and ask our AI for feedback, clarifying questions, or guidance to practice the very dynamic and collaborative nature of a real technical interview. We also have a select number of finance-related technical questions too! Building Chatty was an awesome experience where we became finalist and pitched at UVA E-Cup, was a top 10% YC applicants, and participated in Terp Accelerator. Big thank you to Alexander Zorychta for guiding us through some uncharted territory, a lot of what we were able to do wouldn't have been possible without him! Hello, LinkedIn Connections! As I am graduating from USC with a Master's degree in CompSci, I would like to present one of my favorite projects to you guys. Last semester, I had the wonderful opportunity to learn Game Development through CSCI-526: Advanced Mobile Devices and Games. Over the course, we developed a platformer game with a math puzzle as a twist. Our core mechanics is to arrive at the destination through strategically picking up numbers and overcoming obstacles. Meanwhile, you can leverage different superpowers like Anti-gravity, Teleportation, and others to destroy enemies, discover new paths, and solve seemingly impossible math puzzles. The main obstacle was connecting these fun superpowers with our core mechanic, which is heavily based on mathematics. The interaction between all these mechanics seemed less intuitive. It even resulted in the failure of our first couple of prototypes.  Thank God we had plenty of Play-Test sessions to understand the players' mindset and how they perceive our game designs. Using strategies like A/B testing, Gameplay Data analysis, and Player feedback analysis, we reached our final game structure. It is important to mention that the Effort vs. Impact Matrix helped us expedite the development and refinement of our mechanics. It was a wholesome new experience for me, not just as a Game Developer but also as a leader. I led a team of five developers, managing team dynamics, evaluating designs, and testing and optimizing production builds. Presenting the game to the whole class on a regular basis definitely added incentives to the class. I would like to thank Prof Scott Easley and TAs Datt Patel, Powen Yao, and Junmeng Xu for their valuable guidance throughout the course. PS: Ultimately, you will definitely enjoy the game if you like math. Even if you don't like math, I am sure this game will make you fall in love with math. Feel free to play the game. Reflecting on an Inspiring Experience at GirlCon 2024 Digital Conference 🌟 Last week, I had the honor of leading a workshop at GirlCon's Digital Conference, where we dived into navigating internships as high school students and explored pathways into STEM fields. 💻 Workshop Highlights: Engagement with Future Leaders: Interacted with over 30 enthusiastic students, sharing stories and absorbing their incredible ideas and aspirations. 🔑 Key Discussions: • Balancing demanding schedules while pursuing personal and professional growth. • Strategies for securing internships and making meaningful connections in the tech community. • Addressing and overcoming imposter syndrome from high school to professional environments. 🌟 My Takeaways: The drive and creativity displayed by these young women were profoundly inspiring. Their questions were thoughtful, ranging from how to start in tech to detailed queries about long-term career planning. It reinforced my belief in the importance of mentorship and community support in fostering the next generation of tech leaders. 🫶 A Big Thank You: A heartfelt thanks to GirlCon for this fantastic opportunity to connect, share, and learn. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing how these brilliant young minds will shape the future of tech.

I wanted to hop on here and share some of the points I learned at a recent Rewriting the Code event hosted by the amazing Allison Coopersmith who shared some of her wisdom as an Intern Mentor. Just a few of the things I'll be taking with me from this talk ✨ 💠 Find out fast and early who is responsible for assigning your work (because trust me, you will need to ask for more at least once) 💠 In the first week, learn what YOUR manager considers success in your role 💠 Take notes in every meeting and conversation: try not to ask the same question multiple times (their time is valuable and so is yours) 💠 After the first 3-4 weeks, proactively work to shadow other members on your team and explore other roles 💠 Go into every interaction and request with a "They want to help me" mindset (Remember this one when asking for coffee chats!!!) I've said it once and I'll say it again: doing a great job doesn't guarantee a return offer, so that can't be your only objective. An internship can give you quality work experience AND great opportunities to learn about different career options, network in a company/city, and make genuine connections. All that is to say.......lmk if you'll be in the Bay Area this summer, I'd love to meet 😂

I have some exciting news to share! I’ve been accepted as a Headstarter Software Engineering fellow. Over the next five weeks, I’ll be building five AI projects. For my final project, I’ll develop a solution based on a startup's backlog and business requirements. I just wrapped up my pre-work internship at HoYoverse as a Network & Cloud Engineer. A big shoutout to my amazing team, especially my mentor, for their guidance in troubleshooting techniques and ticket processes. Reflecting on this experience, I've learned a few key lessons: 1. Track Your Progress📒 Documenting your work not only brings a sense of accomplishment but also helps when showcasing achievements to your manager. 2. Make Time for Reflection🤔 In the fast-paced world of work, it's crucial to allocate time for self-reflection. You can learn a lot by going over the progress you've recorded. For me, as I analyzed past tickets, I identified recurring patterns and refined my approach to network troubleshooting. This increased my productivity and prepared me for handling future tasks more effectively. 3. Ask for Feedback💡 Not all companies offer regular feedback, so it's important to take initiative. By doing so, I received valuable insights on best practices and discovered additional learning resources. 🎉 Excited to Share My First Capstone Project: Blackjack/21 Game! 🎉 I’m thrilled to announce the completion of my first capstone project where I developed a Blackjack/21 game. This project was a fantastic opportunity to apply my programming skills and deepen my understanding of game development and probability. 🔍 About the Project: The deck is unlimited in size, meaning cards are not removed as they are drawn. No jokers are included. The Jack, Queen, and King each count as 10 points. The Ace can count as either 11 or 1, depending on which is more advantageous for the player's hand. Cards in the list have an equal probability of being drawn. 📚 Basic Knowledge About Blackjack: Blackjack, also known as 21, is one of the most popular casino games worldwide. The objective is simple: get a hand value as close to 21 as possible without exceeding it. Players are dealt two cards initially and can choose to "hit" (draw additional cards) or "stand" (keep their current hand). If a player's hand exceeds 21, they "bust" and lose the game. The dealer also plays by a set of rules, typically standing on 17 or higher and hitting on 16 or lower. ♠ Key Features of My Blackjack Game: Implemented the core rules of Blackjack. Ensured equal probability for drawing each card. Dynamic Ace handling (counting as 11 or 1). This project has been a wonderful learning experience, helping me to better understand game logic, probability, and decision-making algorithms. I'm looking forward to building on this experience and tackling more complex projects in the future. 💃 Networking for Introverts: Intentional Connections for Lasting Impact With the start of my summer internship, everywhere I turn people keep talking about the importance of networking during internships especially—meeting new people, attending events, and expanding our professional circles. Personally, just hearing about it makes me overwhelmed. I do love getting to know new people, but, as an introvert, I rarely have enough social energy for big gatherings and organized meets and greets. Of course, I want to meet many new people and not miss out, so here are some networking tips for my fellow introverts, or anyone who just needs more space but still doesn't want to miss out! Being intentional about the connections you make can lead to incredible opportunities and lasting relationships and you don't necessarily need to put yourself through large crowds and uncomfortable environments. Here are three important tips that changed what networking looks like for me: 1. Set your goals and prepare 📚 Define what you want to achieve through networking: learning about different roles, seeking mentorship, or finding potential collaborators; having a clear purpose will guide your interactions. Now, knowing what kind of people you are looking for, go on LinkedIn or company websites (if you are targeting specific companies) and look exactly for those people. Research their role and interests to help you start a genuine conversation and ask about your specific goals. 2. Leverage small group or one-on-one meetings and use online platforms 💻 Instead of large networking events, schedule coffee chats or lunch meetings (pro tip: look for less crowded lunch places, where you can actually have a conversation). These smaller settings are more comfortable and conducive to meaningful conversations. Platforms like LinkedIn are also very helpful for reaching out with personalized messages and setting up virtual calls. 3. Be authentic and follow up 🤗 Authenticity goes a long way. Share your interests, goals, and experiences. People appreciate genuine connections and are more likely to remember you. After meeting someone, send a follow-up and keep the conversation going long after that. Don't be afraid to randomly message someone you haven't chatted with in a while, they will most likely really appreciate it 😊 Remember, quality over quantity. It's not about how many people you meet but the depth of the connections you build. Embrace your introverted strengths – listening, empathy, and thoughtful communication – to create meaningful relationships that last beyond your internship! Good luck and happy networking! 🌐🤝

Wrapping up the first week of my second internship at Oracle and getting back into the summer internship rhythm(going into Oracle’s downtown Seattle office a couple of times a week), I am reminded everyday of how impressive, but more importantly kind, helpful, and genuine the people that work here are. One of the biggest challenges that I faced last summer was the overwhelming amount of information presented during onboarding and learning about the massive OCI Pulse codebase. With the constant support of my teams and taking down helpful notes for myself, I was able to complete the same steps in a quarter of the time onboarding to OCI Object Storage I’m truly humbled and blessed to be working at an organization with programs that prioritize the success of early career professionals Some tips for all of my fellow interns in their first corporate experience: 1. When you are able to successfully figure out something that you have been stuck on, write down the problem and solution. This will be incredibly helpful in the future. 2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You are learning new information everyday and you are here to learn more then anything. 3. Have a answer first mindset: When you ask questions approach it with here are the things I have tried to do to understand/solve what do you think or here is something that I think might work would love to get some input. 4. Keep track of your weekly goals and check them off as you accomplish them. This helps you stay on progress to finish your summer project. 5. Write down a weekly summary of 2-3 action items, 2-3 things you learned, and 2-3 questions you have. This will help you put together solid resume bullets at the end of the summer. Week 1 complete ✅ This past week I started my summer internship at Microsoft as an Explore intern on the Real Time Communication team. I'm eager to learn from such talented colleagues and contribute to innovative projects. I want to give a shout-out to Hong Sodoma, and the rest of the team for being so kind and welcoming! There are a few things that I have taken away that I thought to share: 1.) Navigating a professional landscape let alone a new environment can be difficult. As someone coming from a first-generational background so much is changing. Yet that makes it even equally important to make use of the resources around you. Setting up 1 on 1 ☕️ conversations has gone a long way! 2.) Critical thinking shows up in more places than just a project. For me, 8 hours of work simply isn't enough time to hit ambitious goals routinely. I really have had to lean on thoughtful reflection to evaluate the usefulness of such goals. Crazily enough, approaching situations with no right answer can be thought of similarly 🫨.
