Three things Sean Grundy learned at Techstars Boston Accelerator that he caries with himself everyday. 1. Every day counts. Amen to that! 2. You don't have to wait to have a product to sell it. Start reaching out to potential customers - you may end up meeting your goal while developing your products fitting customer needs 3. Hedging is very dangerous. You don't have the resources and time. It may feel like a safe bet - but what you learn is - you need to go in one direction. Prove if you are right or wrong, and only then pivot. No matter what you did your best - if it doesn't work out, it is not due to poor execution, but rather the wrong idea. The power to not hedge is mighty.

NY Tech Week is beginning this week, which is something to keep in mind for founders. Networking events in themselves are usually a waste of time. The exception is that if you use them specifically to achieve your goals. If there are specific people you want to meet and particular asks or shares you can offer, it will be worth your time. But work backward from those goals vs. going to events. Otherwise, you are best off just building and selling your product as you normally would.

I think half the battle for founders in today's world is finding those that are in your camp, who are in your tribe, who believe in you and have a higher power belief system. It is good to see continued investment in the DataOps/Operational Data Lake space. Customers are struggling to get access to and develop consistent KPIs, let alone enable advanced analytics, ML and AI in the enterprise. Many people I speak with are just trying to get a solid data foundation to enable a consistent, global, real-time calculation of OEE across plants (different assets, different formats, different protocols, different teams, and different definitions make this a challenge). Then, they will extend from that insight. Unlocking access to all of the data (sensors, historians, devices, PLCs, etc.), preparing it so it can be used across the enterprise (context, normalization, data models), and then enabling access to those who need it, when they need it, in the applications where they want to use it, is a catalyst that will accelerate the business outcomes aspired to in annual reports. But, it starts with a data foundation that scales. #DataOps

We talk a lot about early-stage capital, but cities also struggle with later stage institutional capital. Without that, the startups that do succeed are likely to follow the investment they can find to other markets. Its important to build a complete capital stack for a truly healthy startup ecosystem.
