Announced on Friday, the competition encourages SMEs to develop AI solutions in areas such as agriculture, construction, transportation, logistics and the creative industries. The first competition, backed by £5m, is a feasibility study for the use of AI to address business challenges. The second contest will see 100 projects able to apply for a share in a £2m funding pot. The funds will be delivered by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s Technology Missions Fund, in addition to Innovate UK’s Bridge AI programme. https://lnkd.in/eruUF5gQ

Came across this really interesting article about how over 90% of the UK public have encountered misinformation online! https://bit.ly/3UWKuqc A recent study by the Alan Turing Institute shows that 94% of people in the UK have seen misinformation on social media. This is a huge stat with warnings that AI-generated misinformation could impact voters' trust ahead of the next General Election. The study also found that while many people know misinformation is out there, they don’t really know what to do about it. 72% of people are in favour of social media companies taking action to stop the spread of misinformation. The study explained only 3% have taken a media literacy course, and just 7% have used self-help resources to fight fake news. Clearly there's a job of work to do in countering such content and giving the public confidence in their ability to detect it when they see it. In the end, fighting misinformation is something we all have to do together. It’s not just up to tech companies or the government. We all need to get better at spotting fake news and using the tools available to us to report it to stop the spread dead in its tracks.
