Not so great agencies blame the client when they get fired. Great agencies understand that almost 100% of the time, they are at fault too. Everyone loses clients for one reason or another. Yes, even great agencies. Great agencies seek to learn, to understand, to see how they can avoid whatever it was, in the future. Bad agencies point fingers, blame everyone but themselves, and can't find fault within. They make off boarding a pain in the ass. Losing clients sucks, but it's part of the game. You just hope it doesn't happen often. You should lose and off board clients as gracefully as you win and onboard them. As we know, the day you start working with a client, is the day you start losing them.

Many agencies get hung up on MRR (monthly recurring revenue). Hunter Hammonds, founder at Assembly (a portfolio of productized services) recommends looking at Monthly Average Revenue. MRR is a proxy for that but once you know monthly average revenue and understand your churn rate you can focus on growth opportunities. For example, Hunter said if actual churn is 15% MoM, let’s plan at 20% to be safe. With that forecast, we now know we need to acquire customers at 25% MoM in order to maintain current revenue levels. Picture this: you run a blog or website and decide to promote products that have an affiliate program. This program gives you a special tracking link to place on your site. When visitors click this link, their journey to the merchant’s site is tracked, and if they make a purchase, you earn a commission. 🛍 Let’s look at Amazon, for example. Suppose your blog reviews consumer electronics, like a Sony TV. You sign up for Amazon’s affiliate program and get a tracking link for that Sony TV. When a reader clicks the link in your review, they're directed to Amazon, and if they buy the TV, you earn a commission. Simple, right? 📺 These commissions are tracked through an affiliate platform. At the end of each month, Amazon reconciles all transactions and pays you for the sales you helped generate. I helped Zack go from $0-10K/mo in his agency just with DMs while working a 9-5. Here was our exact process: STEP 1 - OPTIMIZED FB & IG PROFILES Enticing bio calling out his ICP and benefits. “Making entrepreneurs go viral with short form content resulting in more leads, exposure and revenue” On-brand custom banner in Canva. STEP 2 - DAILY POSTING Educating & building authority. I had Zack post 5-7x/week on both FB & IG. Articles, talking head selfie vids, testimonials, case studies & stories. Authority - built. Now prospects checking out Zack’s profile are THAT much more likely to book a call. STEP 3 - PROSPECTING ON IG Found clients in niche. Liked 2-3 of their pics. Commented on pic saying to check their DM’s. DM’d them a personalized compliment + question. Used voice memos & selfie videos. Goal is to get a convo started. Not to pitch a call right away. Started 20-30 convos a day like this. STEP 4 - PROSPECTING ON FB Found 10-20 groups in niche. Posted authority-building/educational content incentivizing comments. Sent 30-40 daily friend requests to prospects who engaged. DM’d RIGHT AWAY after friend req is accepted. Same type of DM sales tactic as on IG. OUR RESULTS: Zack made an extra $30K in just a few months following my DM sales process. While still working a 9-5. There’s no excuse. You have kids, a 9-5 job, whatever it is. You can still build a successful business. If Zack did it, so can you.

Great agencies make it easy for a prospect to say yes. Great agencies make it easy for a prospect to visualize getting started. And, if it's hard to say yes -- you're almost always getting a no. I see a lotttttt of agency proposals/plans/RFP responses. The best one's check 2 huge boxes. 1) They are easy to understand. They take complex 'stuff' and dumb it down and make it super palatable. In reading it, a prospect can see that it's an easy button of sorts. It tells a story and makes them feel comfortable in their decision. Like a warm blanket of sorts. 2) They include some sort of 'project start'. The 'if you say yes, then this is how we get rollin' section. It demystifies the 'what next' question. There's a time for complexity and flexing the collective brainpower/muscle of the agency, but, regardless, when it gets to the end, I often see brands selecting agencies who make it easiest to get started. If you're not making it super easy for a client to say yes, and visualize getting started... ...by proxy, you're making it hard on them. And, that's not getting you hired.

The #1 Top secret for PDMG's Amazon/Marketplace Agencies success is working for "commissions" and not "retainers." A little secret, if a Brand or Seller doesn't want to pay us commissions we pass on the business, 99% of the time. Many of you might say - you are crazy. But I say I am crazy like a fox. Commissions pays for performance period. You have UNLIMITED upside. Meaning your invoice can go from $3000 to $60,000 (monthly). There is NO CAP to your earnings. Retainers I would argue is a set it and forget mindset. Whereas "commissions" is keep what you kill mind set. This is why our Small agency has made the Inc 5000 list 2 years in a row. Not because we have 100+ clients. Not because we have lots of employees or contractors. Not because we spend 20% in marketing and trade expense. We have NO marketing cost/budgets. It's because we work for commissions. I will leave you with this thought, it's always my golden argument for working on a commission model. THINK SHARK TANK. Our business model is FIRST MONEY OUT, no money in. What exactly does this mean you might ask. It means, we get paid out before the owners, the founders and other investors. We get paid on top line sales. Not a distribution of profits. So we get paid off the top. Just like Amazon - on total sales, not % of ad spend. So if you are working for retainers. Thinks about what I have written here. Unlimited upside for performance vs your typical money retainer that does not motivate.
