Sometimes the most iconic music moments are born from happy accidents. Take the legendary guitar riff in Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing," played by Mark Knopfler. Legend has it that this unforgettable riff came about by mistake during a session at AIR Studios Montserrat. Knopfler was trying to get a specific sound from a Gibson Les Paul Junior plugged into a Laney amp when he stumbled upon the now-famous riff. Improvisation, staying loose, and being open to mistakes can often lead to breakthrough innovations. Knopfler and his bandmates had honed their craft through countless hours of practice and performance. They had put in their "10,000 hours." Their deep expertise allowed them to improvise and create something timeless. In business, we can take a cue from this. Mastery of our field gives us the confidence and skill to navigate unexpected challenges and turn potential setbacks into opportunities. It's about being prepared, yet flexible—ready to riff and adapt in real-time to find the best solutions. I’ve been able, to make VO my life’s work. Besides building, cultivating and constantly growing my talent, I needed the help of many, most importantly God, and many good people who with out there help, I simply don’t make it here. GM’s, programmers, Imaging directors, agents, thousands of hiring teams at ad agencies. On n on through the years, the bookings, the radio station clients and relationships I had and still have, requires a multitude of strong consistent relationships on so many levels. In about 1999 after about 13 years of consistent VO booking success, I wrote a book titled “So You Wanna be a Voice Over Star” A tutorial to help others where at the time VO being a secrete type of Industry that not many knew how to navigate. At the time VO was pretty much only centered in NY, Chicago and LA. If you wanted a shot at a National Union Scale VO career you had to take some risk and go there. In 1993 I packed a moving truck from South Florida and took a gamble leaving a strong Union VO freelance agenda I had goin and a very developed Radio career I was into for the past 9 years, risked all that to move to NY and run around Manhattan auditioning live hoping to build a National Union VO career, 🙏it all worked out. Today I work with folks who have interest here via one ☝️ on one VO zoom sessions. In those sessions we talk, talk life, VO, discuss goals, dreams, inform on the ups and downs of this industry. We talk some history, but we stay current and learn about the state of the industry NOW. We make demos, if it makes sense to make demos, that’s not cheap. VO from afar is glamorous. What’s not cool about making a living with your talent. Voicing on air content, hearing yourself on the air, getting paid. At the same time, line up as millions also feel the same way. But if you love it, go for it. I made it here, why can’t you. Over last several years I created a one ☝️ to one VO coaching system that’s custom and tailor made to whoever I’m working with, as each persons journey with this varries. I tempo the amount of folks I work with at a time, as I have my own VO projects, ongoing clients to manage, and NEW projects I’m engaged with, so I keep that end of things managed right, not overloading myself. Yesterday after hearing back from a very talented VO guy Morgan Andrew Evans that he heard right back from a reputable agent on demos that we both worked on - I was on cloud ⛅️ 9 for Morgan. Just happy for the guy, and I realized the REAL money 💰 in doing this, “helping someone go further” Can’t think of a better day in the studio. Dm me for info on one ☝️ on one VO zoom sessions.
