Despite the pushback, courageous brands are still committed to DEI and are taking bold steps to draw attention to disparities. In its “So Many Dicks” campaign, e.l.f. Beauty calls attention to the lack of diversity on corporate boards. The campaign runs May 20 through June 10 and will appear on billboards throughout New York’s Financial District, home to major financial institutions and other companies struggling with this issue. The campaign is part of a broader effort to double the number of women and diverse members added to corporate boards by 2027. Influencer brand trips have been making us normal people jealous for years. Whether they are living it up in the Caribbean or enjoying the VIP experience at Coachella, brands dishing out trips to the most influential social media stars is old news. So why did Poppi’s house at Coachella make such a splash (pardon my pun). Firstly, Poppi focused on one product - their new Lemon-Lime soda. Everything in the house, from the pool chairs and floaties to the color of the glass doors was lemon-lime themed. It would be impossible not to understand the primary product in this marketing strategy. Then, Poppi focused on one influencer - Alix Earle. By not overwhelming their house with a dozen influencers, the content from the weekend seemed genuine and laidback. Alix invited her friends and they all had an amazing time, thanks to Poppi and their newest flavor. This subdued approach was refreshing in the face of years of packed Coachella influencer houses. Poppi’s take on Coachella was a smashing success, with their influencer collab dominating social media everywhere. Although Stephanie Lin and her brother started their womenswear brand KESTAN as an e-commerce company, the real breakthrough for their online presence came when they opened their first brick-and-mortar store. The retail stores succeeded because they were able to deliver an entire brand experience rather than just be content to try and sell products. After that, they started to see their social media platforms differently—as a chance to bring the retail experience to customers shopping with them from all around the world. They started looking for creative ways to make customers feel like they were enjoying a relaxing day shopping IRL. Ultimately, this approach has led to increased traffic and engagement both online and in-store. Over the last year, FULLBEAUTY Brands has quietly been building a #plussize fashion empire. In early 2023, the 120-year-old company owned 12 plus- and inclusive-size brands including Swimsuits For All and Roaman’s, which it had acquired over the decades. But in the last 12 months, it has added to its portfolio three #DTC and digitally-native plus-size brands, including CUUP , the formerly Walmart-owned ELOQUII and, most recently, Dia & Co. The acquisitions speak to FullBeauty’s continued growth, which reflects how brands from outside the plus-size space, like Old Navy and Walmart, are giving way to more specialized retailers.
