Interesting read for all Marketers and Brands who are still using and leveraging Affiliates and Marketplaces to acquire new customers. Retail Gazette wrote: "Sales were down 17% to £1.46bn in the year to February 29, which it said reflected its increased focus on profitability alongside the challenging market conditions. Revenue was also impacted by the growth of its commission-only marketplace model." This is where you need to be cautious when working with many affiliate & commission based marketplaces - especially when a majority of sales are generated from these sources. So why not owning the whole customer journey, the relationship with your customer and increasing the CLTV by using SheerID ? Well that didn't go to plan... Let me clarify... the panel at Accountex was amazing. For a 5pm talk (competing again some other big talks and numerous drink events) we had a really busy and engaged crowd and, as you'd expect, there was some amazing insights from the fabulous trio of Stuart Hurst, Francesca Tricarico FMAAT and Rachel Harris . BUT I messed up... I didn't check the slide deck before we went live and somehow the formatting change from Slides to Powerpoint got messed up meaning that rather than have their own company names, everyone was credited as being from Cloud 10 Accounting Limited. #fail. Yes we styled it out. Yes it got a laugh. And yup I doubt many people would have really cared. BUT on the biggest stage that I've hosted a panel on, I dropped the ball. So this is me owning it and making sure I've learned the lesson. (Oh and with feedback like this it makes it all worthwhile... "Brilliant branding session yesterday - tough gig having the last one of the day " ) That aside WHAT a couple of days... my first #Accountex with the Silverfin team and we were busy from the start. I had the opportunity to catch up with a load of old friends and colleagues, get a load of great insights and make a host of new connections... There's was time for #AccountAxe beforehand (thanks Digi-Tools In Accrual World team), the usual evening event at the Fox (thanks Callum Macrae) and so much more! Oh and there was even a cameo or two from the amazing (and often changing in height) Silverfin Assistant! Accountex is always a great event and this year seemed buzzier than ever - great work Caroline Hobden and team. So time to reflect back on a great two days and then get ready to do it again for Xerocon - the last pre-summer event of 2024. #accountants #silverfinassistant #EnhancedAccounting #Fintech #Workingpapers

Efficiency stunts growth When retailers grow they largely ignore inefficiencies or don't focus on improving efficiency I was one of them people in the past, grow quickly and ended up just adding people to the mix when I was growing a retailer to £40million Then I worked for another retailer and as soon as I started I spent the first two weeks increasing sales. That caused more issues post-sale for the warehouse which was run on Excel (yep Excel Thomas Bennett) and someone manually created the shipping labels The owner's suggestion when that one person couldn't cope with creating all the shipping labels and handling any issues from the WMS being on Excel was we'll add more people to the team 🤯 One day it took me to add in some tech to automatically print those labels and then that person could get back to what she was employed for - customer services Its hard to take a step back when you're growing quickly but if you do you can create a much more efficient operation and way more profit 💷 💷 💷 💷 Plus no one really wants to do those sh*tty jobs #retail #ecommerce #operations

The summary is: ⏱ Tesco (the UK's largest supermarket chain) warns that £17m worth of vouchers awarded to loyal customers are set to expire in May 💀 Tesco Clubcard vouchers are set to expire after just two years Doesn't seem like much of a reward for customer loyalty to me.
