For many military personnel planning for retirement, or ETS, one important factor that gets overlooked are relationships, companionships, and friendships. Before you launch out on that "ship" you need to cultivate and create a network support system because you'll need it. Only very few people from your last assignment will maintain contact if at all. Some truly do mean it when they say "Keep in touch" while for others it's just something you say. It does get lonely especially if you have no support system (wife, girlfriend, kids, relatives, partner, etc.) outside of what you built while on AD. The Armed Forces will continue on without you. You'll be missed by some & others will be relieved you're gone. Focus on your spiritual, mental, and physical health. You may or may not need a network because we have extroverts and introverts. What we all need after military life is a sense of worth, being wanted/needed, and at least one person we can trust to call on when it gets dark and lonely. Know there are support groups and systems available to help so don't be too proud to ask and seek help. Create your network. Maintain meaningful relationships. Take time for yourself. Do what makes you happy. Encourage yourself and make plans to do and try new things. Don't get complacent. A healthy body helps relieve stress. Know that you haven't "peaked" because there's still so much you can do and try. Challenge yourself. Spend time with family and friends. Volunteer your time. Give back to society. Know you are worthy and the world still needs you.

⭐ FRIDAY EVENING VSO ⭐ ⭐ Intent to File Outreach Campaign ⭐ * VA has an aggressive targeted outreach campaign—using e-mail, text messages, and phone calls—to reach approximately 300,000 Veterans and survivors who submitted Intent to File (ITF) claims between June 1 and August 14, 2023. The campaign reminds them to complete their claims no later than one year after starting a claim or filing an ITF. * The outreach campaign begins on May 23 with 100,000 emails and continues through mid-August. * The ITF process is in place to give claimants more time to prepare and collect supporting evidence for their claims. It also protects the earliest potential effective date for any benefits resulting from claims based on the PACT Act. *This means any PACT Act-related ITF received on or before August 14, 2023, is potentially eligible for the August 10, 2022, effective date as long as a claim is received within a year of the ITF.    * Claimants have a specific timeframe of up to one year from the date the VA receives their ITF to submit a formal claim. For instance, if the VA receives an ITF on August 8, 2023, the claimant must file their complete claim by August 8, 2024, to avoid forfeiting the potential effective date for granted PACT Act claims on August 10, 2022. Transitioning from military to civilian life is a monumental shift, filled with both challenges and opportunities. From our pre-recruiting phase through our military career and even the transition readiness phase, we often hear about the wonderful value our military experience brings to the table. However, there is a caveat that is overlooked. Our military experience works beautifully in the civilian space ONLY if we adopt the appropriate mindset for our civilian careers. I was pleased today to present to an armed forces command on the topic of psychological safety. It is a topic that is coming up more and more among our military clients. It was an engaging conversation about how psychological safety can help to improve mission readiness and to bring innovation to their work while also building resiliency and helping with burnout. Here are some of the tips we talked about for organizations seeking to develop psychological safety: *Provide training on psychological safety and how it impacts the work of the organization *Explain the benefits to employees not just once, but repeated over time - employees need to hear this many times for it to fully resonate *Leaders need to model psychologically safe behaviors and stop negative behaviors when they happen - ie. hold people accountable *If teams or managers are struggling with creating psychological safety, support is provided to them in the form of training and/or coaching *Provide team assessments, training and coaching Curious to learn more? All Transitioning Service Members 🆘 In my conversations with many individuals transitioning, especially those in the Hiring Our Heroes Co-Horts, a common concern keeps surfacing – the anxiety of not hearing back from potential opportunities. Here are some valuable tips based on my experience: - DON'T WAIT FOR THE CALL. - Make a good first impression by engaging with genuine interest. - Avoid just asking "Do you have something for me?" - Be proactive in your outreach efforts. If someone doesn't respond after a few attempts, consider connecting with someone else. - Be PROACTIVE, not REACTIVE. Having been in your position recently, I understand the challenges. Engage in various activities like #networking, #hiringevents, #applications, and informational talks, but remember, it's not just about putting your #resume out there and waiting. Diversify your connections and take the time to build meaningful relationships. Remember, the process takes time. At Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and other companies, we review resumes individually on the landing page, not through an ATS system. With teams ranging 1-20 sorting through hundreds of resumes, it's crucial to be patient and proactive in your approach.
