What motivates software developers to stay engaged with their work?
I live for those a-ha moments, after a problem has been tumbling in my head for a while and then - suddenly - inspiration hits and the solution that was once elusive is now obvious. Solving a puzzle is fun, and solving a real problem for a real person is satisfying. Software engineering is solving real problems for real people by solving a puzzle, and that is fulfilling.
