Shareholders, Management, Sales, and Marketing. It's so interesting to see how these elements interact in real-life scenarios. Southwest Airlines is adopting a "poison pill" strategy to deter an Activist Investor from taking a significant share to influence a profit maximization strategy that could see share value almost double. Ideas from this activist investor? Getting rid of open seating and charging for bags. Brilliant. In an era when brand differentiation is more important than ever, it makes you wonder how effectively charging more for previously differentiating factors would drive sales. Short-term gain? Sure. But how will this affect the business in 10 years? Hopefully, Southwest will solve its operational issues and work on cementing the brand differentiations that are key to its marketing success. Seeing people’s responses to Google’s most recent update over the last few weeks makes me think Google “leadership” may have finally destroyed their own company. There are still a few in the SEO industry defending Google because they think they’ll get special favors, but 99 .9.% of people, including those in that industry and the general public, are furious that the search engine has both destroyed their businesses and filled the search results with nothing but garbage. What some people may not realize is that this update isn’t the first time Google has done this. This time is just the most egregious. And based on what I’m seeing from users, it may be the last straw. Dig around a bit on social media and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t see Google taking the steps necessary to fix this PR crisis because the company is desperate to push people to its paid ads, so this may finally destroy the search engine. While this may be the final nail in Google’s coffin, it’s also a tremendous opportunity for another search engine—or ideally, several, to gobble up search market share by providing a more effective and more transparent search experience. This highlights the importance of responding appropriately to a public relations crisis.

I constantly get asked about the recent changes to Google’s core algorithm and if this is killing SEO. Most people whom I talk to are software makers and their concerns are centered around one key question: “Should I continue to pour my limited resources into this or should I look for other channels now that zero-click search are clearly on the rise?” For people that are selling software solutions, SEO still makes sense for one simple reason: Purchasing software often requires deep online research, cost-benefit analysis, etc. This makes SEO crucial for organic discovery as the buying decision isn’t impulsive like with some traditional industries like retail where you would buy shoes just because they look cool and match your style. For SaaS businesses in particular — where the purchase is often a long-term commitment — SEO is an excellent channel to deliver useful content to your audience. It also helps to build trust from problem recognition to post-purchase customer retention and relationship building. LinkedIn has changed how images appear for third-party articles, reducing them to thumbnails and making posts less engaging. 🥹 Workarounds: 💥Write an Article: This feature allows for larger images and more content, keeping users on LinkedIn longer, which the platform favors. 💥Use Comments for Links: Continue posting normally, but place outbound links in the comments section. 💥Tag Profiles and Pages: Post without outbound links, but tag relevant LinkedIn profiles and company pages.
