You're considering a career in software development. How can a bootcamp help you achieve your goals?
With bootcamps, you get out what you put in. You can develop the skills you need to land your first dev job, but you have to put in the work, and it is a lot of work. Choosing a bootcamp is hard. Some of them are straight-up scams or are run by people who don't really know what they're doing. One indicator is that a good bootcamp should be hard to get into. I failed my first App Academy interview before eventually getting in. They didn't accept students they weren't confident they could help. Doing a bootcamp made sense for me. I had been trying to teach myself to code on my own, but was struggling to focus and needed more structure. I think it's still a smart move for some people, but probably not most.

What are some effective ways to give feedback on code?
One code review policy that I find helpful is to always either explicitly approve the code or request specific changes. This prevents the scenario where the code author is unsure if their code has been approved as-is or what changes need to be made before it will be approved. Of course there are exceptions, like if a developer is looking for feedback on code that isn't finished yet, but they can easily be indicated using labels or PR naming conventions.

You’re a software developer going for a job interview. What mistakes should you avoid?
Don't forget that an interview is really just a conversation. Sure, the stakes are high, and there's a weird power imbalance, but it's really just two (or more) humans talking to each other. Any other task you're doing like writing code, systems design, etc is like a prop for that conversation, something to use as a concrete example to show that you know what you're talking about. Don't just answer the questions you're asked. Ask your own questions. Tell stories. Notice little things that your interviewer says or does and comment on them. Act like a normal human having a conversation. I know this can be hard. It's hard for me. I'm a weird little introvert who hates talking about himself. But it's way less awkward than the alternative.
