Before Warner Bros. Discovery's Max can live up to its tagline of "the one to watch," the streaming service must first become "the one to not cancel." Alarmingly, Max has the least loyal customer base of any major streamer by one key measure, according to a report released this morning by Antenna. A staggering 80% of Max's users are either relatively new or had previously unsubscribed, Antenna found, which indicates that they may be more likely to cancel in the future. There's a clear answer to this massive issue: WBD's new bundle with streaming services from The Walt Disney Company. Do you manage, configure, or operate a modern video production or broadcast facility? Are you familiar with the new flavors of video and media over IP (MoIP) formats like NDI, SMPTE 2110, SMPTE 2022? Do you plan on adding any of these formats or IP workflows to your existing digital or analog facility? There is a whole new way to design and operate with packets in lieu of single signals on coaxial cables. The options of multiple varied simultaneous formats, streaming or broadcasting in these same multiple simultaneous quality streams, greatly expanding capability while at same time massive reduction in hardware requirements is now a reality. Some are lucky enough to be able to build and design a greenfield from scratch new media facility fully IP centric. But most of us will be relegated to adding "IP islands" in existing "hybrid" facilities. In our day's final session we will delve into a typical day in the life of an engineer in managing quality and reliability in a hybrid SDI/2110 facility, which is where most of us will be the next few years. IP is just another I/O interface: It’s a way to get video, audio, and data to or from a switch. This session will discuss what operators and engineers need to know. "What a surprise!" Said no one ever... X has significantly fewer moderators than other social media platforms following its 2022 staff reduction. According to recent E.U. transparency reports, X has the worst moderation staff to users ratio, with 1 moderator for every 60,249 users. Even considering Meta's expansive user base, its ratio still surpasses X's. Despite pledges to address the issue, such as building a new moderation center in Texas, X's efforts remain under scrutiny. The disparity in moderation staff between X and other platforms underscores concerns about its ability to address harmful content adequately. Third-party reports suggest increased rule-breaking content on X, potentially indicating a weakness in its moderation approach. Roku considers integrating advertisements into HDMI feeds on Roku TVs, including showing ads on-screen when a video game is paused. This could be achieved by analyzing frames from the video feed and listening to the audio feed to detect pauses. Should they though? Could come off as anti-user if you turn off your Xbox and then your Roku hijacks your HDMI.
