As part of the "Neuroscience of Leadership" peer group, we had a great discussion last week during our first meeting. One team member shared: "I meditate for 5 mins every morning. I know that's nothing and I need to do more." Your body's reaction will be: "I am never doing enough", rather than actually reaping the benefits of the regular meditation schedule. "The stories that you tell yourself are the most powerful! These stories have the biggest impact on your mind, body and soul." They determine if you take the Victim mindset or one of self-empowerment and agency! Try: "I make time every morning to be consistent with my 5 minutes of meditation. I appreciate the routine I've gotten into. There are a lot more things that I want to do. Currently, these are my priorities and I need to table the others for a different day." Very subtle changes in mindset and language makes a ton of difference. Ready to try it out? Next time you think you are not doing enough. Think about rewording it to recognize and celebrate your effort. This does not mean that you have to remain status quo. This is a launch pad to build on it further.
