How far into the future does your institution plan? There is general consensus that these days, a strategic plan, whether developed for an institution of higher education or another organization, should cover 3-5 years. Following the volatility and uncertainty of recent COVID years, some institutions began leaning towards a 3-year plan, thinking it provided an opportunity to pivot if circumstances unexpectedly changed. Other institutions have stayed the course with planning for the next 5 years. What do you see as the pros and cons of a shorter versus a longer plan?

This article was written for K12 education, but is just as applicable to higher education with several helpful resources. If you are exploring with AI in your classroom, share your successes and challenges with your more reluctant colleagues. If you are reluctant to try AI in your classroom, get with a colleague who is already using AI in their classroom. In order to prepare students for their careers, educators have to be getting students familiar with AI uses in various disciplines. Just today, Ethan Mollick posted: "I see “AI won’t take your job, someone using AI will take your job” all the time on this site. I don’t like this frame because: 1) “Your job”’ is more likely to transform over time than be “taken” 2) Some jobs will really disappear with AI 3) Using AI is going to get easier, it is (sic) isn’t a secret priesthood 4) Organizations ultimately need to integrate AI into their structures, it isn’t all about what individual workers do" Higher education is the bridge to careers of the future, and faculty must respond and adapt sooner rather than later. https://lnkd.in/gr-fAy2J

Based on a review of multiple advisory committee structures for K12 CTE and higher education Professional-Technical (Prof-Tech) programs, 5 core focal areas emerged as common, important, and effective - listed below. This list was originally developed from background research for a Futures Research project. These focal areas could be used by schools and colleges to design, populate, manage, and direct their advisory committees. Examples of ways these focal areas could be applied include: • Organize sub-committees by focal area • Recruit committee members based on strength in a particular focal area; balance committee strengths across the five areas • Assign committee to develop annual (or multi-year) strategies to develop one or more focal area • Evaluate committee member performance by their contribution to one or more focal area • Identify and organize focal areas in which higher education and K12 advisory committees can collaborate, integrate, and coordinate 5 Focal Areas for CTE & Prof-Tech Advisory Committees 1. Program Development and Alignment     A focus on advising on the development, alignment, and improvement of programs to meet industry standards and workforce needs. Ensuring that programs are up-to-date and relevant is crucial for preparing students for successful careers in various industries. 2. Partnerships and Workforce Engagement A focus on fostering partnerships between educational institutions and industry stakeholders to create opportunities for students to gain real-world experience. Collaboration with industry partners helps bridge the gap between education and the workforce, providing students with valuable hands-on learning experiences. 3. Student Success and Equity A focus on monitoring student outcomes, ensuring inclusivity, and promoting equity within programs. Tracking student success and promoting equity ensures that all students have access to high-quality education and opportunities. 4. Professional Development and Advocacy A focus on recommending and facilitating professional development opportunities for educators and advocating for supportive policies to strengthen programs. Continuous professional development and advocacy efforts are essential for maintaining the quality and relevance of programs. 5. Community Outreach and Communication A focus on promoting programs within the community, engaging with stakeholders, and maintaining effective communication channels. Building support and awareness for CTE & Prof-Tech programs among parents, students, and community members is essential for the success and sustainability of vocational education. ASPA Reviews Key Education Initiatives in the 2024-25 Budget ASPA is pleased to see some strategic education investment reflected in the 2024-25 Budget. We acknowledge that school funding is currently subject to negotiations to establish the Better Fairer Funding Agreement, but we are keen to see a big investment in schools and school infrastructure in next year's budget. We are especially encouraged by the significant investment in First Nations education, aimed at closing the gap in outcomes, and the much-needed support for the early childhood education and care sector. We note the $12.7 million allocated over three years for ACARA. Greater collaboration with teachers and school leaders is essential to ensuring the usefulness of the NAP and mitigating workload. This investment should improve transparency and quality assurance of school information across all education sectors, providing a fairer and more accurate picture of Australian education. We welcome the landmark investment in the Australian Universities Accord reforms. The allocation of $1.1 billion over five years, with an additional $2.7 billion from 2028-29 to 2034-35, promises a transformative impact. We strongly support initiatives such as the introduction of a Commonwealth Prac Payment for teaching students, and measures to limit student loan debt indexation.
