How can AI algorithms reduce waste in the manufacturing industry?
For me the elephant in the room/world is plastic. I have been trying to educate myself about the chemical process of plastic production, especially the “polymerization” step, which seems to be when long carbon chains are formed which are generally less edible to bacteria. Rather than making plastics from biodegradable materials (which will drive up the demand for them and take them out of farming and food production), it seems useful to seriously address the chemical process at stages such as polymerization to see if nitrogen or other molecules can be added to make plastic biodegradable at various half-lives. That is, depending on its intended usage, plastic-as-a-service can be developed. This can be optimized with ML surely.
