  • Developing a system and process for measuring performance

Trends in performance management suggest that performance should be measured both in terms of 'how have you performed' and 'how will you grow'. Developmental indicators (how will you grow) include any effort concerned with enriching attitudes, experiences, skills and behaviors that improve the effectiveness of employees. Evaluative indicators (how have you performed) include any effort concerned with individual performance compared against a set standard, other organizational members or the…

Developmental indicators (how will you grow) include any effort concerned with enriching attitudes, experiences, skills and behaviors that improve the effectiveness of employees. Evaluative indicators (how have you performed) include any effort concerned with individual performance compared against a set standard, other organizational members or the individual’s previous performance.

“In a public survey Deloitte conducted recently, more than half the executives questioned (58%) believe that their current performance management approach drives neither employee engagement nor high performance. They, and we, are in need of something nimbler, real-time, and more individualized—something squarely focused on fueling performance in the future rather than assessing it in the past.” -HBR, Reinventing Performance Management, April 2015

This work is all about answering the question - how might an organization create the systems and process that will fuel performance in the future rather than just assessing it in the past?

  • Transforming youth recovery—one community, one school, one student at a time

    - Present

A 5-year effort, led by The Stacie Mathewson Foundation, which focuses on addressing two broad inquires: How can we build the capacity of institutions, local communities and families to help youth and young adults in recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions thrive within primary, secondary and post-secondary educational settings? And how might those efforts create a ripple effect in our communities and the world? To answer these questions, we are looking specifically at the educational…

To answer these questions, we are looking specifically at the educational, peer and family networks that influence youth development and achievement, and we are both studying and conceiving novel approaches that could dramatically expand school-based recovery support services. For us, the key is to mobilize localized community assets into relevant recovery practices and coalitions. It’s all about giving students, families and communities the ability to look out, find others who are building capacities similar to their own, and rapidly copy and emulate those recovery practices that are helping youth and young adults live their best life.

Work in the field of youth recovery has resulted in two national studies on collegiate recovery efforts and the landscape for recovery high schools. sr4 is currently studying effective K-12 Prevention Programs within the United States.
