What are the benefits of using a hybrid approach to vulnerability assessment methods?
Vulnerability assessments should look at processes, people and physical security as well as technical approaches. My response assumes a technical vulnerability assessment. First, understand scope, rules of engagement and tools so an assessment lead can direct resources to complete the activities to demonstrate expected outcomes. Technical scans should include endpoints, network devices, servers, applications and ingress/egress segments. Scan tools should be assessing configuration as well as application and OS vulnerabilities. The team should also be looking at network traffic, ports, protocols and services also. There are many more things that can be identified for a technical assessment, but these are the key areas that should be scoped.

What are the best ways to communicate with customers about security and privacy?
Another consideration to keep in mind is the industry in which your customer is based in and that there may be more than one industry. Some industries are more highly regulated than others. Because the U.S. does not have an overarching privacy law, you may have to navigate multiple privacy laws throughout the various states. Some are much more complex than others. Communications with the client should be only on secure mediums. SMS is not one of those mediums!
