The University of Georgia Alumni Association has unveiled the 40 Under 40 Class of 2018. This program began in 2011 and celebrates the personal, professional and philanthropic achievements of UGA graduates who are under the age of 40. The honorees will be recognized during the eighth annual 40 Under 40 Awards Luncheon on Sept. 13 at the Georgia Aquarium.

As an extension of the Grady Society Alumni Board, the Young Alumni Council plays an integral part in the success of the college as an advisory group responsible for contributing to, and supporting the development of activities for recent graduates of Grady.

• Publicize the Grady College of Journalism at The University of Georgia
• Engage students and alumni
• Encourage and support Grady students during transition to New York City from Athens, Georgia

• Evaluated over 80 multimedia entries and deliver written recommendations in rigorous committee screening process at The University of Georgia for the Peabody Awards, the World’s Oldest Award for Electronic Media, at Waldorf Astoria held in NYC

• Television Feature Reporting category winner for Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts

• 1 of 12 students from Grady College selected for strengths in academics, practical experience and leadership
• Participate in the McGill Symposium, which brings together students, faculty and leading journalists to consider what journalistic courage means and how it is exemplified by reporters and editors

• Awarded "Best News Story" at GradyFest 2013, a showcase of student video work and filmmaking

• Nominated by Dean of Grady College
• Chosen for community service, leadership, and academic achievement
• 1 student from each of UGA's 18 colleges is selected and honored

• Awarded to an "amazing student based on outstanding academic record and achievement in the Grady College"

• The most prestigious Greek leadership honorary in the nation
• Membership consists of the top 3% of Greek leaders from each campus.

• This award is given in the memory of McDonald’s founder – Ray A. Kroc. The Ray A.
Kroc Youth Achievement Award recognizes a special kind of student: one who
exemplifies the “best-all-around” demeanor, one who cares about their fellow man, one
who is honest, friendly, self motivated, and makes a real contribution to not only their
school but also to their community, thereby earning the respect of students and teachers
alike.

• Each year the University of Georgia and the State Department of Education recognize Georgia Certificate of Merit Scholars across the state of Georgia in recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement throughout the first three years of high school.
• To qualify for this prestigious award, students must rank in the top 5% of their junior class and be enrolled in college preparatory curriculum.
