As the President of the Akbayan Pilipino American Organization of San Jose State, I closely monitored Ferdinand Luis as he was the point person that oversaw the recruitment of staff, development of delegation theme, creator of props and banners, development of health/safety protocols, transportation, uniform selection, logistical support, administrative duties, and financial responsibilities. As well as networking with numerous external organizations. The end result was being recognized as both the "Games Champion" as well as the Spirit, Pride, Unit, Friendship Champion. This effort allowed us to become the first Northern California school to achieve both accolades simultaneously in the same year.

Since 2007, Akbayan has been awarded a total of 9 Friendship Games trophies.

PASA Friendship Games is a highly anticipated event with over 6,000 individuals from over 40 colleges and universities across the west coast that come together to play fun, friendly, and competitive picnic games. Held in late October on a field at California State University, Fullerton, Friendship Games has come to represent more than just Filipino American college students. Covered internationally by the press, Friendship Games has become a staple of the Filipino American college experience and promotes Spirit, Pride, Unity, and Friendship to the many diverse walks of life in America.

  • Pilipino Cultural Night

For 25 years, Pilipino Cultural Night, or PCN, has been Akbayan’s biggest event of the spring semester. The event is a student-run theatrical presentation that centralizes an important theme in Pilipino-American society. Tied together by a theatrical play, music, dance, and other folk arts, members participating in the production earn on-stage performing experience while also broadening their knowledge of the Pilipino culture.
