In this research, leading executives share their best practices and strategies to maximize the returns of their partnerships and to avoid and mitigate pain points. The research white paper draws on the results of 10 interviews with executives representing leading subscription companies across key service markets. Parks Associates consumer research finds entertainment services lead the subscription economy for US internet households: 89% have a streaming video service 32% subscribe to a streaming audio service 20% subscribe to a gaming service 16% have a gym membership "Partnerships are increasingly driving acquisition and retention," said Kristen Hanich, Research Director, Parks Associates. "Partnerships enhance brand awareness and market reach, reduce customer churn, and remove friction from the user sign-up process, in addition to increasing overall customer satisfaction." Here is a really interesting report, via Google, looking at the economic impact of Generative AI. IT. One of the interesting aspects is that it foresees large impacts (for example 80% of jobs in the US could see 10% of their jobs being done twice as fast with no loss in quality.) However, it does not think Generative AI will fundamentally disrupt society and the nature of employment. It is more a case of winners and losers - but it does predict losers. I’m coming up on 3 years of tracking public data and connecting it to consumer behavior. Friday was a first seeing consumption chained dollars outpace current dollars. This one is going to get a little detailed, consider yourself warned. Chained dollars is another way to say inflation adjusted. Ever since I started watching these metrics, these two numbers were reversed. While inflation driven spending boosted consumption dollars, and ultimately the perspective of many companies as being more successful than what they were/are, chained dollars showed what was actually happening. In the consumer world, I think about chained dollars more as volume. Volume (ie unit/size) is what fills up plant capacity, ingredient purchases, and all of the jobs connected to them. Volumes have mostly been on the decline…not a great sign. That said, I was very surprised to see this swing in Friday’s report. Of course I dug in… Consumption is broken out into Durable and Non-Durable goods, along with Services. While services provided the largest change, it actually slowed from the prior month. It was durable goods that shifted significantly, moving from -$20b to +$13b. That seemed like a lot. Off to retail sales. (Before I do, it’s crazy that retail sales comes in 2+ weeks before this read…any movement based on this report is really outdated.) When I think of gif swings in durable goods, I often look at autos first. Of course, the largest month to month change in May? Correct, cars. So we know cars had a month in May, but why the situation below? Off to the CPI. New vehicle pricing has had accelerated declines every month this year, with May being the peak at -0.5 vs April. Why, you might ask? Inventory. Car companies are dealing with fairly significant inventory issues right now, so they’re using aggressive deals to turn that inventory. So, as a result of consumer pullback in autos, we saw a significant shift in consumption this last month as pricing DID NOT outpace total spending due to increased discounting activity in the auto sector. This matters a lot because if this theory holds up, the technical glitch at dealerships in June could swing these numbers the other way. Without the context it could seem really surprising to the market. We’ll learn more as earnings season heats up. #consumerbehavior #pce

These days simplicity is not just a virtue, but a necessity: one which many will pay to get. Hub Entertainment Research's latest bundling study finds 3/4 of consumers would consider paying for an app or service to manage all their subscriptions in one place, even if it doesn't come with any content of its own. This bodes well for new bundles from pay TV operators like Comcast or Spectrum, and especially for subscription storefronts like Verizon's + Play.
