In a recent conversation with Hannah Zhang at Private Equity International, Wafra's Co-Head of Strategic Partnerships Gustavo Cardenas shared some of our proprietary data on how the landscape of GP stakes is evolving. According to the data, there are more than 2,500 targets in the market, far higher than many think. Despite a widely held belief that most firms able to sell a stake have already done so, Gustavo explains that penetration is in fact much lower, especially among infrastructure and secondaries players. He also notes how selling a stake can be seen as a rite of passage for many firms. “At Wafra, we've been investing in GP stakes since 2012 and have watched private market managers grow to adopt the concept more readily in the past few years,” Gustavo said.
