'Proprietary Media' (or 'Principal) is a hot potato in our industry right now. A new report from the Association of National Advertisers is a great, in-depth guide to the pros and cons, with very good recommendations for advertisers. Here I go into the cons and cons and argue that it is bad for everyone and ultimately the Media Agencies themselves. I call it 'unprincipled' media. As the WFA meets in Toronto for Global Marketer Week the health of the advertising industry should be on the agenda. Advertisers may not be able to solve issues such as climate change, but they can take actions with a more immediate impact on the well-being of the people who service their needs through how they spend their money. Despite disruptions in streaming platforms, privacy challenges, and the rise of AI, a new study from Advertiser Perceptions offers encouraging news: digital advertising spending is set to increase by 10% in 2024 and 2025. This growth will be driven by retail media and connected TV (CTV), marking a significant shift in our industry's landscape. Big step forward for dentsu Creative as Abbey Klaassen assumes the role of Global Brand President and Phil Gaughran takes on the role of President, Global Creative Product, Growth & Strategy. "Now moving “beyond” its transformation in the U.S., Dentsu Creative’s leaders told ADWEEK they’re turning their attention to international markets with an aim to create consistent experiences for Dentsu clients around the world. Dentsu Creative’s recent big-budget wins in the U.S. market follow a period of change that saw agency brands including McGarryBowen and 360i absorbed by the overarching Dentsu Creative brand. The recent wins suggest the holding company’s new approach is gleaning some results, and its leaders are keen on driving more."
