CDP vendors won't love this post. Because they tend to over-sell too many complicated features. This leads to lengthy implementations, costs, and a bunch of tools you never use. Here's how to get 80% of the functionality w/ a handful of tools. You can add complexity later. At its core, a CDP should do the following: 1. Store customer and event data 2. Unify that data 3. Action that data (audiences and integrations) Here's how I'd start. Store the data. We need it all in one place. 1. Set up a cloud warehouse if you don't already have one, such as BigQuery, Snowflake, etc. You want to own your data, especially your 1P customer data. 2. Set up an ETL tool. There are plenty of no-code options these days. Fivetran, Funnel, Stitch, Portable, etc. 3. Setup batch feeds from your key sources. A few clicks, and you'll have data batched and synced from your sources. - CRM sources: Salesforce, Hubspot - Ecom/OMS sources: Shopify, SFCC, Magento - Email/SMS: Klaviyo, Braze, Attentive - Ad Platforms: Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn - Loyalty - Cust Service P.S. It's okay to use multiple ETL tools. Prioritize the most important data for you. 4. Event data (clickstream) I'd focus on first-party data BEFORE trying to include event data. But it's good to collect even if you don't use it immediately. Enabling the GA4 Clickstream via BigQuery is an easy way to start. 5. Unify the data Again start with first-party data. The goal is to build a comprehensive customer table that automatically updates. Start w/ a scheduled queries in the warehouse to bring together: Customer Id First/Last purchase date Products/categories purchased, Demographic data LTV and RFM metrics in different tranches (0, 30, 60, 90 days, etc) Some basic scoring Bonus points for assigning segments (Whales, One-time buyers, Lapsed, etc.) Run that query(ies) daily. Can use a little pipeline if necessary (eg. dbt) 6. Activate the data Plug in your audiences to your activation platforms (again, Meta, Klaviyo, Braze, etc.) Some will have direct connections to your database. Others may require the audiences be pushed. There are "Reverse ETL" tools that can help (eg. Census). Also some warehouses can do this directly (eg. Snowflake) Hooray, you have a solid 1P data activation platform. Can be done in a few weeks w/ a smart data person and some YouTube time. Is it a full CDP? No. You're still missing real-time activation, governance/consent, and better stitching capabilities. But you have a really nice setup for 1P data activation. Audiences are unified, updated daily, and pushed back out to the world. This is not throwaway work. The warehouse you built will be your foundation when ready to expand. --- If any of this sounds foreign, leave a comment or schedule a time. What would you add/change about this approach? #cdp #firstpartydata #composable

IMO >90% of companies are not ready for 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦 ABM. Why? They think they are doing Acount-based marketing. But they are doing what I'd call "Account-Based Operations." I usually hate semantics. But there is a difference. ABM = true 1:1 motion, extremely targeted to accounts with a massive deal size, and will change the trajectory of your company. Account-based operations = targeting your ICP taking into account buying groups, account data, account signals, and operationally setting your team up to run account based plays. Every company needs Account-based operations. Very few companies are ready for true Account-based marketing. Crissy Saunders outlined 5 very telling questions to ask yourself before you run towards ABM Check out the video here: https://lnkd.in/eQQP45xD #abm #gtmoperations #marketingoperations #revenueoperations

There's a common theme in all books about selling and it's about uncovering the pain. Just because somebody wants to "see" your product doesn't mean you have a qualified opportunity to win. At best you've got a curious party that is looking to keep up on the tech in their industry. Nothing more nothing less. Nurture but don't waste sales cycles or SE people power. Find a deal with a problem you can solve instead of hoping this turns into one. #Sales #SaaS

In just 3 days, I visited every Marketo CSM in their major offices. Yuli Chen will vouch. 117 referral accounts and a game-changing strategy for driving partnership success. Here's exactly how we did it. 🚨 Partnerships can be a game-changer, but only if you play to win. 🏆 When I joined Drift as the Senior Director of Global Partnerships, I had two goals: 1. Make partnerships success undeniable 2. Document the process for company-wide buy-in The stakes were high. Our Founder & CTO expected me to place the right partner bets from day one. No pressure, right? 😅 Enter our strategic alliance with Marketo. We chose them, which meant one thing: I had to win. Fast-forward a few months, and the partnership had already secured 117 accounts. Here's how we did it: 🎯 Step 1: Easy referrals We set up marketo [at] drift [dot] com for real-time referrals. Clean, simple, effective. 📚 Step 2: Enablement We put collateral on reps desks on why THEY should care. More contacts = more upsell. Win-win-win. 🎉 Step 3: Be memorable I visited all three major Marketo offices in person. Bought them meals, explained the promo, ended with a strong CTA. Printed materials on gloss card stock for desk staying power. 🎁 Step 4: Swag Flew the swag with me. Scrappy + frugal. 💡 Step 5: The aha! moment Instead of working Drift into active deals, I had Marketo AEs send us their closed-won accounts. No risk to current deals + an easy pitch: "Hey {customer}, we have an exclusive partnership with Drift to help you double lead conversion rates. They're offering 20% off and free onboarding to my customers this quarter. I recommend at least a quick call to see what Drift could do for you. If you're not interested, no worries, but who doesn't like converting more leads?" 🚀 Step 6: Make it even easier I showed reps how to export won deals from Salesforce, had them email the lists, matched them to Drift AEs, and sent back the sheet with rep assignments. We even wrote email templates they could copy/paste. (wish I had Reveal back then! lol) 📞 Step 7: Follow up Getting Drift reps to follow up consistently was tough. So we created a sequence with a highly personalized first email (screenshot/Vidyard of Drift on their site) + 4-5 emails to bubble up the referral. One touch isn't enough. The result? In just two days, we secured 117 accounts to refer. 🙌 But that was the beginning. There were dozens more reps to follow up with and the largest office visit still to come. Here are my top takeaways for driving real results with strategic alliances: 1. Pick a sumo and outline your strategy. Get the full guide here. 2. Get in the field. 30-min Zooms aren't enough. Play detective in-person. 3. Document your learnings and progress. Be ready to explain your success in detail at any moment. Want to build your own game-changing alliance? Read the full post for a step-by-step guide. Partner up and play to win. 🔗 👇 on nearbound.com #partnerships #b2b
