Travel debit card Currensea has raised over £1.7m from 760 investors in just four hours on crowdfunding platform Seedrs. Currensea initially targeted a raise of £1m at a valuation of £28.5m. The successful campaign comes after the #fintech hit 100k cardholders in March, with its money-saving app now used globally every nine seconds. Currensea says the funds raised will support future customer acquisition and continued development of its co-brand offering. James Lynn, co-founder of Currensea, comments: “Consumer appetite for travel has almost fully recovered from the pandemic and the unprecedented investor demand for Currensea demonstrates the need for a simple solution that eliminates FX fees and maximises the value of our savings." In 2022, Currensea raised over £4.5m through a Seedrs crowdfunding raise as well as VC investment from venture capitalist Blackfinch Ventures and 1818 Venture Capital. 2 tips to increase how often you get approached for relevant roles on LinkedIn ⬇: ✅ Add as many keywords to your profile as possible, you would be surprised how many Payments sales professionals don't have Payments on their LinkedIn profile and it can be causing you to lose out on loads of amazing opportunities. Recruiters use specific keywords to search for the most relevant candidates for a role, some jobs will be industry specific or will require someone who has sold in to a specific vertical so get them on your profile!! ✅ Know what role you want to be approached for and mirror your LinkedIn to be similar. I'm not saying lie about your experience but you can highlight key points which are more relevant to your desired role. These things not only make my life easier when head-hunting but will make sure you are getting approached for more desirable positions. Salt

☔ I am currently wading through applications after a few days off and there is one theme.....☀️ Literally no-one explains where they work anymore. 💡We are working in an age of some *very* cool firms in financial services. 💡 Most of these firms have *very* cool names. Like peanut, zopa, zilch etc (you get my drift). 🆘 Even if you work for one with a reference to banking, assuming people know of your firm, or what products they deal with is sometimes a stretch 🧪 Test your brand name - next time you're with your mates, as them to explain what your firm does. If they say "I dunno... banking", you need to write a blurb in your CV babes. ✍🏼 It doesn't need to be war and peace. Something like this is fine "Zopa Bank Ltd. is a British online bank which offers deposit accounts, personal loans and credit cards" (I stole that from wikipedia... sorry if its wrong Zopians) Please like and share this mildly useful recruitment tip 😂 Jess x

⛔ The recruitment system is broken. ⛔ Just had a look at the number of applicants we have received over the last 5 days at Cognify Search... 962!! This week we have submitted over 30 data candidates to our clients. Only one of these candidates have come from our adverts (admittedly we sill have around 1/3 to review).. ⛔ Easy apply is creating too much noise! ⛔ Much of the noise comes from candidates who have very few of the skills required ⛔ Most are not based in the UK ⛔ Many companies only accept candidates who are British Citizen, have ILR or Settled status. ⛔ There is a disconnect between candidates and hiring companies in terms of remote and hybrid working. ⛔ Data is becoming more silo'd, companies are looking for a specialist within a specialist.

Highlights Q1 - A slower start to the year than usual for startups/scale-ups (consistent with market conditions over the last 12-24 months). - Lack of investment and spending. So you've launched your start-up, acquired funding and have started generating revenue - now what? 🤔 It's probably time to seriously consider entering the talent market... Now you have a few options to start this process: ⭐Do it all yourself ⭐Hire a TA ⭐Find a good talent partner Doing it yourself is time-consuming, utilises a limited network, and shoulders all the risk of a poor hire. CapEx is zero, but the real hidden costs are much worse. Hiring a TA is Capital Intensive (systems, salaries, recruiting tech.) great for large scale-up missions but restricts flexibility to attack the market or utilise a variety of networks. Getting a good recruitment partner that knows your niche, is well-connected in the market and doesn't overcharge and under-deliver? Wide network, flexible at-will hiring, de-risked process, and the least time-intensive of your options.
