Have you ever struggled with forecasting young PDP wells? Geology, completions design, and well spacing are critical predictors for well performance, and by incorporating them into early-time forecasting, you can dramatically improve accuracy. Here, I'm showing results from our PDP forecasting models on younger wells from the Permian, Williston, and Appalachia. These models use machine learning to directly forecast declines, incorporating not just prior production but also geology, completions, spacing, parent-child, etc. This data is especially useful for younger wells, where the production data may be too noisy or non-hyperbolic to get a good fit using a traditional Arps curve. This is especially the case with public data sources! Across these three basins, our machine learning PDP forecasts improve accuracy by 32%, 46%, and 29% on the primary production stream, compared with a traditional DCA methodology. Why does this matter? Newer wells (<1.5 years old) make up about half of production in the L48, though it's even higher for some basins and assets. Poor forecasts on young wells leads to incorrect valuations, inaccurate supply models, and bad type curves. Our operator customers have been using these models for over three years now to improve their forecast accuracy, but we have recently released these forecasts as a live, auto-updating data product for our subscribers. Just a quick reminder on gas production: yes, the Permian is an incredibly important gas basin. But that is due principally to the sheer number of Permian wells. The average recent Appalachian well produces ~7x the gas of a Permian well. Permian gas growth has been breakneck, but Appalachia is still 👑 Data here for 2022 wells, normalized to 10,000'.

Field Pumping Advice Needed! (Continue reading even if you immediately think this doesn’t apply to you! Educate yourself; it may directly impact the women you work with now or in the future!) Like many millennial mothers in oil and gas, I’m a pro at pumping while on the job. I’ve pumped in offices, on airplanes, in many continents and countries, in those little pods in airports, in lactation rooms of varying cleanliness and quality, at conferences, in public restrooms, in public restrooms AT conferences (this one was at 2022 SPE ATCE, my first time to pump at a work trip). I can confirm it’s a great way to bond with other women across cultures and make friends. Nothing like someone walking in, seeing you, and saying “Been there! You’re doing awesome!” I’ve experienced this in the US, the Middle East at ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference, and in Norway at the International Association of Drilling Contractors / Society of Petroleum Engineers International Drilling Conference! But… I don’t have experience pumping on a drilling rig. I’ve got a colleague that will be out in the field in the coming weeks and she will need to pump. Women who have done this before or men who also have experience from working with women in the field - how do you coordinate this? Where exactly do you pump? Rig Manager’s house? Truck? Drive back in to town? I’d definitely recommend pumping and dumping (that means you dump the pumped milk down the drain; you don’t keep it) to not have to worry about temperature and maintaining a sterile environment. But that’s all I got. Please tag someone in the comments or even repost if you know of others who can help! I’m sure there are many methods that work and OOF pumping logistics can be super overwhelming. Thank you!

In the early days of slickwater shale frac’ing, screen-outs occurred regularly, leading to expensive clean-outs and multiple mobilizations for the frac crew to complete a well.    A career low for me was screening out stage #11 on Liberty’s first well, back in December of 2011. Our Christmas break came early, and it would take 6 weeks before we completed a 21-stage well.    Slickwater frac’rs walk a fine line.  Everyone who has played on a beach knows that sand settles fast in water. Transporting sand with water in a horizontal well runs the risk of sand lurking at the bottom, slowly reducing the effective flow area in a 4”-diameter lateral that is 10,000 ft long. Once below a critical rate, sand starts to "dune" in the wellbore, and as surface pressure approaches a working maximum and rate is dropped in response, you continue to build a bigger restriction for flow and BOOM! You're pumping into a sand plug. The job is done and pressure is off the screen.    Viscosity used to be a way out of this conundrum. But additional chemicals to viscosify are expensive. And they do not give water the properties needed once it enters rock - thin, watery fluids create more fracture complexity and surface area needed to improve production of hydrocarbons. That's why shale frac'rs favor friction reducers (FRs).   Our industry has reduced gel viscosifiers through two developments. First, well economics have favored the use of cheaper local sand, which, by good fortune, also has a smaller grain size. Smaller sand grains do not settle as fast. Angus Measurement Services, LP Special Services Group 🤜 Stand Guard🤛 It's Thursday morning Permian Basin on the southwest edge of the Llano Estacado, off the east side of the Frankle City Highway in beautiful Gaines County, Texas and it is shaping up to be a blow this afternoon. Or so all the weather experts are saying. We will see if the weather prognosticators are a little better. Those rich greedy people on the east side of US 385 are doing a much better job paying their preachers than us poor folks on the west side. It is true it rains on the just and the unjust, but it is seeming to rain more east of here. I have to make a confession. This morning, I went down a few rabbit holes. I was reading through some post, and I got that urge to blow up some post and comments. I am becoming a student of LinkedIn and social media in general and I sat back and realized, what I was doing is exactly what the algorithm is designed to do. Left, right, liberal, conservative, pro or con makes no difference to the algorithm. Take a look at the post and articles that have the most comments and response. What set me back was a post by Robert Reich. And the comments. Somebody in his circle knows how to work LinedIn. I am not a fan of Robert Reich nor his political leanings but I find it fascinating how he or more likely someone working for him has figured out how to use the LinedIn social media platform for the most bang for the buck if you will. His posts are timed and targeted not for his audience, but for increasing his 'voice" by hitting others feeds. I have found the more I click on these posts, the more of them that find their way into my feed. Sort of the two wolf's story. The one you feed is the one that grows. That is why I have to remind myself every day to "Stand guard at the door of your mind". I'm working to stay and be positive doing this little thing I do here on LinkedIn. I want to offer help and hope because it seems more and more things are getting worse and worse. If you watch my sunrise video's I say to find someone you can help and make their life a little better. Too many want to get mad and blow up at a worker in a coffee shop drive through for not making a stupid $8 dollar coffee drink correct while driving to a "Workers Rights" parade. Here’s the current situation: ERCOT’s ECRS Program Reform: ERCOT’s recent approval of the ECRS program reform is a double-edged sword. While the initiative is crucial to prevent blackouts like those in February 2021, the estimated $12.5 billion cost to utilities in 2023 raises valid concerns. However, the long-term benefits of a stable and reliable grid outweigh these costs. Balancing financial impacts with grid stability is essential, and this reform is a step in the right direction, even if it requires fine-tuning. Connecting Texas to the National Grid: Congressman Greg Casar’s “Connect the Grid Act” is a game-changer. The MIT study supporting this act suggests that linking Texas’s grid to the national network could have prevented up to 80% of the blackouts during Winter Storm Uri. The potential savings of up to $1.24 billion annually and the significant CO2 reductions make this a compelling argument for interconnection. Embracing this change could transform our grid’s reliability and economic efficiency, fostering a more resilient energy future. Texans’ Concerns: The recent poll by the Texas Politics Project reveals that over half of Texans fear a widespread electrical grid failure this summer. This sentiment is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities we still face. ERCOT’s warnings about risky conditions, especially in August, highlight the need for urgent and comprehensive strategies. We must prioritize robust solutions to ensure our grid can withstand extreme weather and high demand. Texas stands at a pivotal moment. So gents and ladies. We left the issue of refrigeration components for the CONOCO PHILLIPS OPTIMIZED CASCADE LNG process. We left our discussion showing that the amtmospheric temperature for ethylene was approx. - 110 deg C. It is evident that compression of ethylene to some 2 MPa ( 290 psia) will intersect the methane vapor pressue at this temperature , at some 2 MPa. So a slight increase in pressue , to say , 2.5 MPa , fortunately the ethylene temperature, of approx. -110 is still colder than the Methane saturation temperature of some - 100 deg C. This gives a -10 deg C differential. Thus, ethylene is able to condense methane at this pressure level. Now have a look at the ETHANE vapor pressue curve. As pressure increases th saturation temperature also increases. However it is clearly seen that the C2H6 temperature DOES NOT INTERSECT THE METHANE VP CURVE. It can be seen; it’s temperature at ANY selected pressure is HOTTER than the methane temperatue at any pressure. This ethane vapor prseeure curve does not intersect the methane curve. Since Ethane is HOTTER , it MAY NOT be applied as a condenser for methane , as there is not the negative temperature difference. So all, you now have the reason ethane is not a refrigerant in the CONOCO PHILLPS OPTIMIZED CASCADE LNG process. So at 2.5 MPa , methane has a -100 C temperature. Ethylene IS a refrigerant. So at 2.5 MPa , and -100 deg. C, liquid methane will expand to 0.1 MPa , 100 kPa , or 14.7 psia , atmospheric pressure, and its equilibrium temperature is - 200 C. So that facilities in the plant methane will chill the process gas to the 1 atm , and - 162 deg C. Remember the liquid phase of Methane at 1atm. and -200 C. will be the refrigeration element. is As shown in our PHASE ENVELOPES, these conditions revert the process gas to a bubble point saturated cryogenic LNG. Stray Current Corrosion Control Evaluation at the Texas Medical Center • This report presents the results of a comprehensive stray current corrosion control evaluation conducted by Corrpro Companies, Inc. for facilities throughout the Texas Medical Center (TMC). • The evaluation focused on determining the presence and corrosion control significance of stray earth currents caused by the operation of the Houston Metro light rail transit line. • Metro is a 7.5-mile-long, direct current-powered rail return transit line constructed almost exclusively with embedded street-running rails, including 1.8 miles through the TMC complex along Fannin Street, Braeswood Boulevard, and Greenbriar Drive. • Corrpro's evaluation primarily addressed exterior (perimeter) steel-reinforced concrete basement walls within many of the TMC institutions and incoming, underground metallic utility piping. • The evaluation detected Metro-caused stray current electrical effects on various TMC facilities, with the significance of the stray current varying from facility to facility and structure to structure. • Corrpro recommends that Metro develop, implement, and maintain an effective program to control stray current levels within acceptable limits to prevent continued negative impacts on facilities within the Texas Medical Center. https://lnkd.in/eC2ASygd

Paul Foster Sleeps Well in El Paso Weather temps in El Paso, Texas, today are expected to breach the 103° mark. Nothing out of the ordinary here when summer says “howdy” to West Texas and her Permian oilfields. El Paso is where billionaire oil tycoon Paul Foster lays his head at night. He was born here after all, and today the sprawling city is marked with his name on two college campuses, a downtown building, and a boutique hotel. From roughneck to refiner to oil and gas producer and investor, Foster has continued to demonstrate a Midas touch. And now the Permian E&P he co-founded just six years ago is looking like a cool dip in the pool for Delaware buyers. Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest news on Denver-based Franklin Mountain Energy (FME), one of the largest privately held oil and gas producers in the N.M. Delaware. Following the 2017 sale of his El Paso-based Western Refinery for $5.8 billion, Foster—the founder and CEO of Franklin Mountain Investments—took only a hot minute before launching FME along with six partners in 2018. This time, diving back into the oil and gas biz as a self-funded E&P for the first 33 months with a decided mantra to not go public or invite outside investors. Instead, FME was all about finding the right asset and taking it from there. And, boy, did they find it. The newcomer to the Delaware—which no one had ever heard of—gobbled up 4,041 Delaware acres at a 2018 BLM auction. Two weeks later, FME acquired OneEnergy Partners, adding another 4,280 net acres. What began with production of 50 BOED at a then-$38 per barrel has now become 50 MBOED. The Midas Touch Man whose name is firmly etched in El Paso is now hardly a secret behind Franklin Mountain Energy—said to be among the latest Permian acquisition targets and a fine fetch in the $3 billion range.
