Seems obvious eh? Collaboration, or simple basic communications, should not force you to a service running in a far-off place, across n-networks, tiers and tiers of infrastructure only to manage the relationship with your peer that is in your operational proximity. Or worse, not function without that massive network stretch. It is also obvious to me that airlines, a hard customer-focused industry, are one of the early adopters, and successes of true (edge) distributed operations. Where's your focus? More and more expensive network and data infrastructure? More "cloud-native"?

His is a huge vision, with an endless backlog of interested customers and partners and a very specific path to monetization and profit.   If you’re an investor or potential partner and would like an intro, drop me a DM on LinkedIn.   As always, I had a chance to ask Daniel about one of the toughest hiring challenges he’s faced in the past few years as a serial start-up entrepreneur with big hurdles and big opportunities in front of him.   QUESTION:  Tim, what do you suggest startups should do to attract great talent at a reasonable cash price, give limitations in resources and financing?    ANSWER:  There are many creative options, but one is to propose a larger OTE (On Target Earnings) plan, where a variable component is introduced and tied to a revenue number, large milestone, or cost reduction target. These increase cash flow, which can be shared with the executive for hitting key strategic goals. The hungry ones will quite often trade-off a “bigger income pool” for less guaranteed cash comp.   Everyone at a start-up should be a little bit hungry for something (TBD) or they shouldn't be there at all.   DM me below if you have any feedback or would like to know more!

Apple continues to amaze us with their innovative technology, and their introduction of Face ID is no exception. The Facial Recognition System was implemented for the iPhone and released in 2017 with the iPhone X. Face ID allows for biometric authentication, making payments, accessing sensitive data and other features. Interestingly, the sensor emits infrared dots on the user's face and generates a 3D facial map. The notch located at the top of the screen contains more technology than any other part of an iPhone, making authentication incredibly fast and secure. As someone who used Touch ID before, I was blown away by the speed and precision of Face ID on my recently purchased iPhone 13. 📱 The technology behind it seemed like science fiction just a few years ago, but now it's a reality. If you're trying to inspect an element that's removed from the DOM when the element blurs or loses focus, there's a handy little trick that you can use to keep the element focused so that you can inspect the DOM. Here's how to do it: 1. Click the kebab menu in the top right of dev tools. 2. Hover over More Tools and select Rendering. 3. Scroll down to the option that says Emulate a Focused Page and toggle it on. You should now be able to inspect the element without losing focus. Sad to hear about the *last* carvel meeting. Carvel came up with (1) a sane replacement for k8s operators (2) a really dynamic Yaml substitution model (3) a really easy to use docker image inspector (imgpkg). I love these tools (especially 3 and 1) and still use them sometimes, even after i left VMWare Tanzu. Reminds us that - if you depend on an open source project - as the contributors to donate it to a foundation - esp if its relevant to infrastructure or other critical things that might be mission critical. The CNCF or the ASF have always been great homes for projects - and they live well beyond the scope of any company's ups and downs. Open source foundations are super important, and they're experiencing a loss in contributors due to the economic crunch. Become a contributor to the projects your company cares about so that you can help maintain them in crunchtime :) Also its a good way to make friends. https://lnkd.in/g4DBVuy8
