This was a ground-up redesign of our primary web presence. The objectives could be grouped into two general categories: improving internal capabilities and workflow, and building a more modern foundation for external users of the site.

This was a ground-up redesign of our primary web presence. The objectives could be grouped into two general categories: improving internal capabilities and workflow, and building a more modern foundation for external users of the site.

I built it with the Expression Engine CMS and leveraged Twitter's Bootstrap 2 for the visual foundation. It's a fully responsive design, optimized for tablets and mobile devices and uses web fonts for an elegant and fast-loading experience.

Through the use of various EECMS add-ons and back-end configuration, I was able to empower our content producers to make changes easily with rich media (such as slideshows, videos, call-to-action features, maps, events, etc.).

The entire project is managed with Git, and uses Compass/SASS for the CSS production. This increases stability, smooths out releases and new features, and enhances loading speed (from optimized CSS).

The site was launched from start to finish in less than a month ahead of one of our large events (which I was also producing). It was a very tight turnaround from green light to launch. Show less

CityServe is the Palau Association's new online brand for highlighting stories of ongoing city transformation through business, civic, and religious partnerships.

The articles are all tagged by interest area (adoption, civic, resources, etc.). This dimension was deemed important enough that I made it a key navigational element throughout the site.

The site was built on the Statamic CMS (a flat-file, no-database PHP system) for its simplicity, reliability, and robust functionality.

ZURB's Foundation 4 was selected as the CSS framework for it's use of SASS preprocessing (I'm a big fan), responsive, mobile-first design, and easy customizability. In the prototyping phase, I used DivStrap.com to mock up the layouts and accelerate the design and approval process.

As of this writing, the site's content is still in development, but it's far along enough that it's worth presenting here as a project. It demonstrates the methods of building sites I'll be recommending to clients in the future for content-centric sites.

Speed is life! Statamic is extremely fast, keeping page load times to a minimum; while the site is not yet fully optimized for mobile (I prefer a mix of responsive CSS and server-side optimizations for that), it's already extremely quick. Running on Nginx and CloudFlare for DNS helps even further. Show less
