About us

YWCA Columbus defies the status quo that puts women, people of color, and the marginalized on unequal footing. By fostering dialogue, providing practical resources, and educating our community, we promote empowerment and inclusion. We initiate systematic social change that will create a Columbus of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. To make a real difference in Central Ohio, we need the support of our entire community. We need contributions of all kinds-from hands-on volunteer work to significant financial gifts. Please contact us directly if you are interested in joining our community and our mission.

Throughout history, individuals with disabilities have encountered barriers and misunderstandings. Embracing the diversity within disabilities and their intersecting identities is crucial for cultivating inclusivity. July is #DisabilityPrideMonth, a time to uplift the diverse experiences of people with disabilities and advocate for a more inclusive world for all. "Disabled" is NOT a bad word; it represents a spectrum of identities and experiences that must not be erased. In the face of systemic ableism, let's honor the history, achievements, experiences, and challenges of people with disabilities. 🧡 #YWCACbus #OnAMission

Six decades since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, we pause to reflect on the profound impact of past and present activists and advocates who tirelessly pursue justice. Their legacy propels us onward, yet the journey to true equity and the elimination of racism continues. As we mark this milestone, let us boldly reaffirm our commitment to tangible progress. We are believers in equity, dreamers of a just society, and change-makers in our communities. Now is the moment to keep pushing forward together. #YWCACbus #OnAMission

On Friday, the Supreme Court made a devastating ruling in the case of City of Grants Pass Oregon v. Johnson – criminalizing homelessness across the country. Localities will now be able to arrest, ticket, and fine people who are unsheltered and sleeping outdoors on public property, even when there are no other safe or adequate housing or shelter options available. This is cruel and unacceptable; homelessness is not a crime. Read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/gX676pQ7

Filling up your Amazon cart this weekend? Consider adding some baby wipes for the YWCA Family Center!

Volunteer & Donations Manager at YWCA Columbus

Did you know an infant will go through approximately 600-750 wipes each month? Toddlers average a mere 450-600. Doing the math, at the YWCA Family Center we can expect to go through approximately 20,000 baby wipes each month. Why do I bring up this astonishing statistic? Because we need more! Right now on our shelves at the Family Center, we have about 1-2 weeks worth of wipes. Can you help bridge the gap by shopping our Amazon Wish List and sending a box to our door? Or, can you share this post with someone else who may be able to help? The families and kiddos we serve at the Family Center thank you for your support! https://lnkd.in/gWZHSyJj
