AI in action: The build vs. buy decision The first question to ask: how large is your organization? For small or midsize companies, the effort—and money—required to build (and maintain and iterate) an AI platform is often not worth it. It could take years instead of weeks to see any ROI. That’s because, for an AI platform to really improve your business, there are many features to implement, including data integrations and maintenance, security and access control, compute scaling, cost control, and value measurement (not to mention adoption and training). And given the speed of innovation in AI, there is exceptional value in moving faster. For larger organizations, we’ve seen the most value generated in building AND buying. You know the old saying: “Not everything you see on the internet is true.” The same can be true for the answers, advice, and information we see when using AI. In a recent experiment using a dataset of 300 user questions, Yurts’ AI, with RAG, answers contained hallucinations (inaccurate information) at a rate 1/10th as often as a GPT4-o powered chatbot.
