A huge thank you to an amazing volunteer team from Mercer for renovating the playground at our St. Charles County Early Learning Center! Their work transformed this space into a safer and more enriching environment for our children to play and learn. Thanks for being an amazing team and supporter of Youth In Need!

June 19 marks Juneteenth, a day we commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Today is about celebrating the achievements, strengths and accomplishments of members of the Black community. However, there is still so much work to be done. Black youth unfortunately face disproportionate rates of homelessness and an overrepresentation in the foster care system. Through our Racial Equity Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) commitment, we’re striving to listen and learn about the inequalities that some of our clients may experience and how we can challenge those inequities.

Not only is Ashwini Kherdekar Arora, MSW, LCSW, CDFT a YINner, but she’s also a member of FOCUS St. Louis’s 49th Leadership St. Louis (LSL) Class! Ashwini manages diversity and inclusion efforts at Youth In Need and has been pivotal in helping create policy and culture changes that better align the work that we do with our Racial Equity Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) commitment. Congratulations, Ashwini, and we’re excited to see what this exemplary group does to transform and impact the St. Louis region!

"At Youth In Need, we believe every child and youth is precious. We equip and empower them to build on their strengths and realize their unique potential, ensuring they feel valued and that they belong. Sadly, LGBTQ youth often face rejection from their families and society, leading to higher rates of homelessness, violence, trauma, and suicide, especially among youth of color. All children need safe, supportive environments to thrive. We can make a difference by educating ourselves and others and advocating for their rights. With compassion and determination, we stand in solidarity for the humanity of our young people, with all of their beautiful diversity, during Pride month and every month." - Pat Holterman-Hommes, CEO of Youth In Need

Congratulations to Latroyia Rogers, Receptionist at our St. Charles County Early Learning Program in Wentzville, for being selected as the Direct Service Employee of the Year by our Board of Regents! 🎉 With 17 years at Youth In Need, Latroyia is known for her friendliness, kindness and organizational skills. She exemplifies our core values and makes everyone feel welcome and included. Latroyia's dedication is truly inspiring. She even came to the aid of a parent who suddenly lost consciousness in the lobby and inspired her children to join our Early Learning Programs staff. Thank you, Latroyia, for your incredible contributions!
