Well put Mark Cusack! As a victim of the AT&T and now the CrowdStrike fiasco, there needs to be a critical examination of these errors given how pervasive they are in our every day life and the modern economy. I never thought I would see the day that getting a hotel room key can take over 5 hours! Dang, I was about hit follow for that newsletter! Keep sharing, please!
Given the blast radius of the Crowdstrike update issues, CIOs should take a good look at their risk exposure due to SaaS in their enterprise stack. The pile it high, sell it cheap model of SaaS consumption works well when it works well, but one inadvertent push to production impacts everyone. Similarly, the one size fits all approach to authentication drives easy access and self-service, but results in everyone following bad practices: you get a car, YOU get a car, EVERYBODY gets a car!!! Which is super, until you’re explaining to your shareholders and the Feds how you got hacked. There needs to be a more sensible medium, where companies get the benefits of SaaS but limit the risk and don’t get caught in someone else’s blast. Subscribe to my newsletter below to find out how. AT&T will begin notifying around 110 million customers about a fresh data breach that allowed cybercriminals to steal the phone records of “nearly all” of its customers, a company spokesperson told TechCrunch. In a statement, AT&T said that the stolen data contains phone numbers of both cellular and landline customers, as well as AT&T records of calls and text messages — such as who contacted who by phone or text — during a six-month period between May 1, 2022 and October 31, 2022.
