MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 🚀 Tuesday marked the launch of Station DC at Union Market District with a crowd of people who believe in this city as a home for frontier tech. We would not be here today without the support of DC Council members Phil Mendelson, Kenyan McDuffie and Zachary Parker (and special thanks to Kenyan for welcoming and introducing us to our future home!). ✨ cc: EDENS, Capital Factory, Washington Office

An impressive kickoff! Thanks for the invite Evan Burfield and best wishes for your new venture with Miles Taylor and team! Website is especially clever and well branded, best use of webflow to make a statment I've seen: https://lnkd.in/e99dqmqf From the Washington Office press release; "As a fractional “Washington office” for forward-thinking clients. W.O. will provide strategic communications, business development, and government relations support under one roof." “We built Washington Office because DC consultants claim to understand tech, but they’re locked into the status quo, not the future,” added W.O. co-founder Evan Burfield. “Our clients will be championed by people who’ve been policymakers and technologists — who actually understand product and have built things – and who have worked at all levels in Democratic, Republican, and nonpartisan leadership positions.” “This firm will be unlike any other in the nation’s capital,” said W.O. co-founder Miles Taylor. “We’re building a tech-forward team that’s overseen sensitive national programs, negotiated deals with foreign leaders, and overhauled tech policy inside and outside of government. To put it more bluntly: we’re not slow-moving, boxy-suit lobbyists. We’re the get-shit-done crew.”
Liftoff event for “Station DC Launchpad," a tech incubator opening in 2025 to support start-ups capitalizing on the billions in new contracts by the Federal Government into chip manufacturing and AI. Unveiled at a NATO mini-summit Tuesday at Dock 5, the City- and Revolution-backed incubator is dedicated to “frontier technologies” like AI, automation, and energy. Josh Baer, founder of Texas-based Capital Factory, plans to build the 15,000-square-foot space in DC's Union Market neighborhood, supported by $2 million in grants from the DC Government and Steve Case's Revolution. DC tech champion and 1776 co-founder Evan Burfield of Washington Office, highlighted the importance of leveraging advanced technologies to tackle pressing issues, from decarbonization to defense, connecting innovation with the national interest. #WashingtonOffice #StationDC #AI #automation #energy #defense #innovation #governmentcontracting #DoD #networking #govcon #federalcontracts #NATOsummit #events #technology #digitaltransformation #Revolution #SteveCase

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Director Stefanie Tomkins tells me that when she started in her position, she noted that many DARPA projects were in the green, which means succeeding. She said the bar had been set too low so she raised the tolerance level for more failures. She wouldn’t tell me what percent of failures she set, but it’s a fascinating approach and was interesting to hear her. I will post the video when I get it, but this was at “NATO to the Future” yesterday. Capital Factory and Station DC sponsored.

We couldn’t agree more. DC is the most important city for startups.
In the last week, Andreessen Horowitz (reportedly) and Point72 Ventures (officially) shared plans to establish offices in Washington, D.C. This got me thinking about what the next few years of tech + venture in the region could look like. Collaboration between venture investors, founders, executives, and policymakers is more important than ever. Here are few predictions for what could happen in the next three years in D.C.:
