About us
We engage with undergraduate students, connecting deserving young people with senior-level executives from major media companies and provide academic scholarships to students pursuing degrees in a variety of disciplines that touch strategic media. Our mission is to provide college students with the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of the public policy advertising field, and to meet--and potentially work for--leaders in the media industry. Our signature programs are the Media Scholars Case Competition and the Media Fellows essay-based scholarship program. Through these programs, we create scholarship and provide educational and professional development opportunities for students and their advisors. Some inspiring words from one of our scholarship recipients: "It's easy to allow self-doubt to prevent us from pursuing opportunities, especially competitive opportunities. Apply for that scholarship, apply for that internship or job, make the move you're scared to make. If you had asked younger me if I thought I'd have moved to New York City and acquired a role within my first year of graduating, I'd probably have my doubts. You are your biggest critic and your mind can be your most intimidating obstacle. Once you allow opportunity to flow into your life, you'll see how much positive change you're capable of. During the 2024 Emma Bowen Foundation Conference, I was honored with the Rising Star Award. Thank you for recognizing my team’s work toward holding the respective predominantly white institutions accountable for the lack of adherence to House Bill 1980, and my continued efforts to be a great reporter, intern, and journalist. Telling stories! The speech was impromptu. I was not prepared! But for family and friends who have requested the speech video: https://lnkd.in/eM-3CHdz Receiving the award was the last thing I expected. Why? I underestimate myself. This award goes to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It also goes to Emma L. Bowen, an activist committed to granting equity to young people of color in the media industry. The relationship between the media and minorities has been plagued with negative connotations for decades. She used her network to create the Foundation for Minority Interests in Media, renamed to the Emma Bowen Foundation after her passing. Bowen was fearless, unapologetic, and confident in the overlooked media talent in minority communities. She never underestimated me. Why should I?
